My answer to hypochondriac tendences

in hypochondria •  7 years ago

When I was younger and has access to a good medical aid, any ache or pain, stuffy nose or unexplained symptom would have me rushing off the the doctor. I am sure they must have have sighed when they saw me in their waiting room. Many of my ailments were self-inflicted I am sad to say, but with age (sometimes) comes wisdom. Twenty years ago I changed my life style completely and when I retired I started having a good look at what was being prescribed and found in many cases the same could be bought over the counter for a fraction of the cost and with no additional doctor's bill to pay. I began to rethink the way I had been living. As medical aid costs rose and limits were placed on doctor's visits, I decided to adopt a new rule. here it is:

If I feel sick, headache, flu-like symptoms the odd unexplained ache, I wait a week, If necessary I will take a flu-tab, or a pain killer to suppress the symptoms, I am no martyr. If it doesn't get worse, I persevere for another week.

Do you know that in 99% of cases your body sorts it out. Eat healthily, do some exercise, Which I must admit I do not do enough of. Our body is a wonderful work of of God, respect and it will respect you.

there are very wise words you said! following you :)

So far they have worked for me. I know our ancestors died earlier but I still believe it's not necessary to take every cough to a doctor. Our bodies are wondrous machines and also to have the right mental attitude helps tremendously.

The human body was designed to heal itself.

Doctors are great in treating acut trauma - less holistic when it comes to most other unwellness.

Our bodies are actually amazing - I think sometimes we inhibit the body from healing itself with all the pills and stuff
