Experts at Bristol University scanned the mummy and analyzed DNA to discover the look of the most beautiful woman of the ancient world
The face of Queen Nefertiti (1370-1330 BC), one of the most famous rulers of ancient Egypt, is often called the most beautiful woman of the old age, has been reconstructed using the latest three-dimensional technology.
This is claimed by scientists at the University of Bristol, although many egyptologists do not believe that their claims are correct, for at least two reasons - the mummies they used and skin color.
Genetic data
For the purposes of the Travel Channel, the reconstruction was done by Egyptologist Dr. Eiden Dodson and forensic analyst and paleographer Dr. Elizabeth Dane, known for the reconstruction of the face of Pharaoh Tutankhamen.
- This fascinating face resembles the ancient face look of Queen Nefertiti. By reconstructing the face and collecting genetic data, we have enough evidence that the so-called "younger lady" was just Nefertiti - says Dodson.
Otherwise, the "younger lady" is the name used for an unidentified mummy from the Valley of Kings, which, thanks to DNA analysis, is known to be the mother of Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Although previously identified several times as Nefertiti, this interpretation was rejected because it is known that she was not the mother of the famous "boy king", but his stepmother. To the extent known from the source, Nefertiti had only six daughters.
- Elizabeth Dane made a remarkable reconstruction of the "younger lady", which is the subject of speculation since the discovery of 1898. DNA tests have shown that the "younger lady" is Tutankhamen's mother and daughter of Amenhotep III and Queen Ti. If that is true, then it is not Nefertiti, because it has never been identified in the sources as the mother of this Pharaoh, nor as the daughter of the ruler. In addition, the famous bast was created at the time of Amarna, when realism was dominant, and when looking at a reconstructed face and what you would, it is clear that it is not the same person, says V. Raymond Johnson, professor of Middle Eastern civilizations at the University of Chicago.
To many it was annoying that Nefertiti was portrayed as a white woman.
- The population of Egypt was a mixture of European and African races, and this was the case at the castle. Amenhotep III had women from abroad, but he and Ti were mixed in origin. Their daughter would probably have darker skin than those on the reconstructed face - he says.
