Hey guys! Do you ever have those nights when you just can't sleep? Sometimes when you have something on your mind and some nights just for no apparent reason at all!
I haven't had a night like this in a very long time, normally I sleep fine. However, tonight it just seems every time I try to sleep my heart starts racing faster and faster. Every minor sound frightens the shit out of me. I can hear my heart beat in my ears if I lie on my side. When I fall asleep I keep thinking, like on autopilot but I'm not dreaming, just thinking.
After just over an hour of trying to fall asleep I give up, which is why I'm on here now! Sadly, I have to wake up in just under 6 hours :(

What's stressing me out
I'm currently studying for my exams! I have a lot of pressure on me to do well this exam season as I've been underperforming throughout the semester in most of my subjects, so I really need to ace these exams to have a good score this semester. This is likely a contributor to my insomnia tonight, as it's really been quite stressful, especially because I have done pretty much 0 work today due to some family issues.
Which brings me to my next point... my family has been far from functional since I was born and remains so to this day. Sometimes I wish I wasn't here but I always tell myself I was put here for a reason, to help these people but sometimes it gets quite overwhelming. However, I wrote somewhere else that these hard days just make the good times that much sweeter, and this is what keeps me going most days.
A recent dream I had
Last week I dreamt I died. I remember I was driving a car amidst a storm with heavy rain and strong winds. There was a helicopter that was flying weirdly due to the storm and in my mind before it started falling, I knew it was going to fall.
Soon, I could see the helicopter start spinning around as it descended. I soon realised i was on a collision course with the rapidly descending helicopter, so I screamed to the driver to turn. The driver didn't listen and we smashed into the helicopter. This part was probably the strangest part, I didn't wake up. I remember the collision, I didn't feel pain but I saw a bright light (cliche, I know), and my ears were ringing from the loud sound. Before I knew it, I was in a white room, like not a room, more like a boundless space.
Then I woke up.
Something I just realised about my dream is that I WAS THE DRIVER. I remember yelling at the driver to turn, yet I also remember being the driver... spooooky
You are only 18 years old you are not responsible for your family and trust me you can't fix them. Concentrate on your studies that is your priority and passing your subjects is the best thing you can do for yourself and your family.

Your dreams are just a manifestation of your subconscious. I know your feelings about having insomnia for being stressed for your next exams, because I've lived it on my own. But I just think, not sleeping won't improve my score, it could even get it down. So I listen to some relaxation music, meditate and try to sleep..

My sleeps are reverse programmed ,i cannot sleep during night ,i sleep at 6 am and wakeup at 11am .it has taken toll on my health .

Sorry to hear about a family that isn't quite functional; I guess it'd be too much to ask for stories, it does sound painful. I would say that I am glad that you are here as I appreciate your content, and wish you luck on your exams. I hate exams, and actually I spent last night tossing and turning, I'd drift off into sleep, have some insane dream, wake up as a result, rinse and repeat like 5 times
When family and studying clash, that is quite a difficult maze to navigate. But so much of school is fluff, nice to know but not directly applicable, I have a bit of bitterness because of that...
I guess you can try to "keep your eyes on the prize" or so to speak, what kind of goals do you have for yourself and/or others? A healed family would be great but that sounds challenging...

It's not too bad honestly, my family loves me and I love my family, but it's my family amongst themselves that often have trouble communicating, with 100000 misunderstandings haha
I agree it is hard trying to settle disputes while studying, not just because it's time consuming but because it's extremely mentally draining. However, I'm dealt what I'm dealt and I just try to make the most of it!

Regarding your dream ,i will give you an advice to take care of yourself for somedays ,i am nit superstitious at all but i once saw a same kind of dream and had a narrow escape in an accident .Take care of yourself and pray to god for good health.

Sorry to hear of your insomnia. Horrid experience if it lasts. I used to have a lot of trouble sleeping. Would take 2 hours to fall asleep. Often not until 4 or 7 am before I fell asleep. That was at the beginning of the century and then I learned Vedic Meditation. Never needed a sleeping pill after that. Changed my life and now I teach it to others as my day job.
As for the dysfunction of your family. We don't choose who we are born into. But we can choose what we do about it. I strongly recommend you let go of any sense of responsibility you have to look after them. Instead work on healing your own wounds and when they watch you heal, if they are ready to heal themselves they will come to you.
Otherwise all you do is bathe in their suffering and that doesn't help anyone.
It's not about letting family go, we can love and accept them whilst simultaneously not being drawn into their suffering. And in doing this we can love and accept them more.
And the more you heal the better you'll be at looking after your own family when the time comes.
