I've seen similar tromp l'oeil techniques implemented elsewhere in the world. If my recollection serves me, the first notable application that was brought to my attention was a tromp l'oeil little girl playing in the middle of the road in Montreal to slow auto traffic. This effect is such a crowd pleaser. Cheers for posting.
