A hiker’s delight.
The Laugavegur Trail snaking through the south-central Highlands of Iceland is considered one of the world’s great hiking experiences. Typically traversed in 4-5 days, the 55 Kms route, accessible only for a few weeks during summer, is a visual feast of colourful rhyolite mountains, ridges, glaciers, ice caves, lava fields, crater lakes, geothermal terrain, red cinder cones, and green moss. The expedition traditionally begins in Landmannalaugar and ends in Þórsmörk.
We caught sight of hikers yesterday near Hraftinnusker during a flight over the area.
