The primary goal at Datum is to provide a useful data marketplace that is extremely valuable to token holders. Based in prominent technology-forward countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, and Switzerland, the team has a total of eight decades of combined experience in developing viable data processing and management systems.
Imagine a scenario. You go to Amazon and search headphones and then decide against buying it. The next time, when you go to Google and you can see an ad popping up on the side displaying some headphones from Amazon. Have you ever wondered how it got in there? That’s how secure we are on the internet. Whatever we do is being watched by someone. Our data is being sold to someone else without our knowledge.
Google, Facebook, Instagram all these companies sell what we search, what we post and we have no idea where and how our data flows. Google stores all the information you search, you view, your location everything and then they sell it to the companies. Google gets paid for what they sell, and the companies pay them for allowing them to show ads. But we, the people who provide the data to Google and those companies are not getting paid. A guy named Andrew Lewis rightly said, “If you are not paying for the product, then you are the product.” Every online website you visit is selling you at some point without your conscience.
What if I say that you can control what data you want to share and that too you can monetize it? Datum network is a decentralized blockchain based company, which allows you to control which data you want to share and don’t want to. The advantage of Datum network is that it is a decentralized blockchain company, which means that it is not controlled by any authority and the data we store is encrypted and is secure with them and most importantly only you can share which data you want to share.
WHAT THEY DO?
Datum network was founded by Roger Haenni, Gebhard Scherrer and VC Tran. Their idea is to protect our private information and don’t share it with others without knowledge at least. In this era, the main problem is that everyone is getting paid for the data they sell. But the data is created by us. Why don’t we get paid? That is the goal of Datum network. So, Datum doesn’t restrict you from using Facebook, Instagram or Google but it protects you from sharing sensitive and private details about you. So, how exactly they do it? Let us see.
DATUM CLIENT
Datum network developed an application called Datum Client, which can be installed on your laptop or mobile. This application will provide you how much data has been stored and how much you can earn with monetizing your data. We can’t stop using Facebook or Google for that matter but at least we can control what we can share and if we are going to share something it’s not for free.
How the application work is that you store the data onto the network and you would get something called DAT tokens and then if someone wants to access your data, they will buy that stored data from the network using the same DAT tokens.
An example how Datum works
The application just removes the middlemen in the business. The person who wants your data can access it directly and you can see who accessed your data through the app. The app just provides the transparency needed.
Currently, the app is released only for Android and iOS and in future, the application is to be released on other platforms.
CONCLUSION
Datum network is creating awareness on sharing your data and when other big companies are selling your data as if it is as their own data, it helps to share which type of data you want to share and also you can monetize from it.
