SWIPE brings forth a sea of change, with our unique utilization of blockchain technology along with our privacy and data sharing protocol.
PART 1/3: It’s tough being an app developer, with less than 2% of users willing to spend via in app purchases and even fewer are willing to download paid apps. Displaying ads can create a steady flow of revenue but they are disruptive and annoy users, reducing retention. With all these challenges, many apps rely on data monetization to keep afloat.
What is data monetization?
Many of you have heard about the Cambridge Analytica scandal and how they invaded the privacy of 87 million users. The reason why this drew huge backlash from the community is because they took the data of users and sold it without aggregating and anonymising it, which means details such as your name, where you stay, who your friends are and where you patronize were all part of the report. This is wrong and a clear violation of privacy and the key reason why the world was up in arms.
However, it is important to note that in the typical data monetization process, your identity is protected and goes thru a data mash-up process which means your data is combined with others users and the final output contains none of your personal information. The output is a report containing insights into user preferences and general behaviors. This process, when done right, creates a win-win situation for both the user and the data buyer. When businesses know the preferences of their consumers, they know how to provide better content, tweak their interface and plan for meaningful updates, enabling them to providing a better user experience.
That being said, today’s data monetization process is far from ideal as it is non-transparent, non-auditable and users have little control of their data and are not rewarded for contributing data. This is when we realized blockchain technology can solve these issues and our desire for a better process served as our motivation to create SWIPE. We are app developers ourselves, focusing on AdTech and successfully launched 2 apps , one in Indonesia (Cepatswipe)and one in Philippines (Agila Rewards)with over 1 million users. We have personally been involved in the data monetization process which is heavily reliant on a centralized 3rd party and with blockchain technology enabling decentralization, we are confident of disrupting this space.
SWIPE will reinvent the data monetization process with our unique and scalable software development kit (SDK) solution, which provides a suite of in-app marketing tools to help app developers to increase user engagement and retention. This can be integrated seamlessly and connects app developers and their users to the SWIPE network . As part of the network, it empowers users to have more control of their data and rewards them if they willingly share data and creates a way for app developers to work together to create valuable data. Using our decentralized data marketplace, it will be possible to monetize data directly to data buyers, which provides a fairer revenue stream to app developers and gives data buyers a way to audit the origins of the data, giving them confidence of its accuracy.
In order to understand more about the value of SWIPE and how our idea is going to be a game changer in user privacy and the data monetization process, we will explore the problems of the current day process in PART 2. Stay tuned and thank you for reading!
