Hidden mining (cryptojacking) is the use of the power of personal computers and other devices connected to the Internet for mining without the knowledge of their owners.
During the first year of 2018, the number of cases of hidden mining has increased significantly all over the world. In Russia, criminals have made more than 23% of cyber attacks with the help of virus programs for hidden mining. This type of cyberattack took third place in popularity among hackers.
This year, more than half of companies around the world have already experienced negative consequences. Much of the hidden mining affected individuals, researchers attribute this to the inattention of people and the imperfection of anti-virus programs.
The attack was made by three types of malicious miners: CoinHive, Cryptoloot, Jsecoin.
Security experts from “Malwarebytes” have warned that the biggest threat to users is from adware and to large organizations is from spyware.
