Internet Computer is a set of protocols developed by the DFINITY Foundation that allows independent data centers around the world to connect and offer a decentralized alternative to today's centralized Internet cloud providers.
It is the world's first blockchain that operates at the speed of the web with unlimited capacity.
Internet Computer's main innovation is Chain Key Technology, which allows transactions to be completed in 1 to 2 seconds. Which is a huge improvement, but still not enough.
Other features that make up the protocol include: the Motoko software language; the neurons that allow users to "time lock" their ICP tokens; the cycles that serve as the computational resource for performing operations on the Internet Computer blockchain; the Network Nervous System (NNS), which is the autonomous software that controls the Internet Computer blockchain; and a host of other features.
ICP is a native auxiliary token for managing Internet Computer.
With a market capitalization of $5,334,323,175, it ranks 36th.
ICP is a well-known token, but it's worth mentioning as its price when it launched on Binance on May 11, 2021, reached a whopping +-$2830 compared to where it's been hovering these days, which is around $30. That May 11, 2021 daily candle closed at +- $365. The ICP price has not looked at that level since. Therefore, hopefully we will see ICP at these levels again.
