A senior citizen does not belong in a kindergarten class as one of the kids, even if he or she “feels young at heart.”
A male college student does not belong as an enrollee at an all-women’s college, even if he “feels female" or "non-binary."
We live in an age where distinctions are increasingly blurred, where any distinctions are considered suspect, and where the blurring of all distinctions is celebrated by many who never grasped the value of those distinctions in the first place.
And yet, DISTINCTIONS DO MATTER.
A man is not the same as a woman. A child is not an adult. A Christian is not a Muslim. An American citizen is not a citizen of the world; he or she is a citizen of the United States of America. And millions of people who entered the U.S.A. unlawfully are NOT U.S. citizens, nor – without going through the naturalization process – are they entitled to all the opportunities and privileges available to U.S. citizens, including voting in federal elections. The question is not: “Do you feel American?” The question is: “Are you, by law, an American citizen: Yes or No?” And that is a clear distinction.
