HOW TO CHANGE ADDRESS WITH USCIS?

in immigration •  5 years ago

The law requires that most non-citizens of the United States notify the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) of address changes within 10 days of moving. It is the sole responsibility of the person applying for immigration benefits for themselves or their family that USCIS has their current address. Failure to notify a change of address in writing is a misdemeanor and could affect your ability to acquire immigration benefits in the future.

USCIS processes hundreds of thousands of applications each year and often requires additional evidence, which is requested by mail. The USCIS may reject a case, deeming it abandoned, if the applicant for immigration benefits does not promptly respond to a request for evidence.

Non-citizen immigrants must fill out form AR-11. You can mail or fill it out online by going to  https://egov.uscis.gov/coa/displayCOAForm.do . It is recommended to keep copies of all correspondence sent to the USCIS, and use certified or registered mail service to guarantee its delivery and to have proof that you sent the documentation.

A US citizen is not required to give a change of address, but it is recommended that you do so if you have a pending case with USCIS, such as a family petition or you have given a support letter.

Each government agency has its own procedures for address changes. Although not required, the US Department of State recommends immediate change to avoid delays in requests for consular processing. Changes can be reported through the National Visa Center by writing to [email protected] or by calling 603-334-0700.

If your case is being processed at a US consulate, contact the appropriate consulate to change your address. Visit  https://www.immigrationinpictures.com/ to find the consulate's contact information.
