Raising the minimum wage to $20/hour for everyone but immigrants...or raising the minimum wage to $20/hour only for immigrants?
This thought experiment reveals how damaging an artificial “minimum wage” is.
I can’t think of a more efficient way to devastate immigrant families than making it illegal for them to find entry level jobs...where they can learn English, develop more skills, build their professional network, and eventually get promoted.
While politicians may have good intentions, the results are disastrous. From an economic perspective—which is all that matters—you are literally making it illegal to hire someone who isn’t already worth $20/hour.
Think about that for a second.
The same logic applies to $7/hour, $15/hour, etc.
