Someone is impersonating Philip Defranco on Steem

in impersonator •  6 years ago  (edited)

I have reported to steemcleaners https://steemit.com/@philipdefranco

I got in touch with Philly D on twitter and he confirmed it is not him on steemit. He tried to sign up but they never got back to him. That is a huge shame because he has such a huge amount of followers.

I offered him the solution of using AnonSteem or I would make an account for him.

Many of you might not know this, but Philly D is a big supporter of the Basic Attention Token(BAT) and accepts them for his stuff. He promotes it big time.

Recently I also had Elon Musk respond to me, so kinda cool I am getting responses from people who have so many followers and are influencers in the world <3

It’s so frustrating someone that popular is trying to make an account and can’t.

I just registered the @phillyd account (same as his twitter) and will hand over keys if Phil messages me back :)

We've been trying to get him on here for ages, it really sucks that someone squatted his name and the registration process failed him.

My partner @krystle is also messaging and is about to drop 115 SBD in the account - the payout from a post a year ago..

That is very good to hear :)

I have always liked Phil and listen to him off and on over the last few years.

I think the reason he replied back to me so quickly is due to verifying my email and having a profile picture and some other things. I noticed that Twitter enabled settings that allow you to not receive notifications from people who didn't verify email, or people who have the default profile pic/etc. There is like 6 things you can check now.

I think they did that to combat a lot of the bots from annoying people. If enough of us do all of those things and make a group effort to message people to bring them to Steemit I believe we could have some success.

I think it is the reason Elon Musk responded to one of my tweets also. Twitter is said to be like 90% bots or higher, so it may be possible to get responses from people who have a large amount of followers with just a few people leaving a message.

It is something that interests me because I have done some similar things over on reddit with different usernames and on other platforms like youtube. Once most of the botters on twitter realize that they just need to look a little more real, they will become a nuisance again.

I am going to work on something to bring more people over from twitter to steemit using that weakness, maybe get like 10 people to all reply to someone about steemit and stuff like that.

Get any positive movement regarding the imposter? I'd get into steemit.chat's public channels for more help if not. They get a lot of reports. Did you report it using the steamcleaners.org link?

https://steemcleaners.org/abuse-report/

Yes, based on the flagging of the user's new posts, it looks like Steemcleaners is on the case! I flagged all of their posts to drop their reputation another point as well.

I reported them last night, but myself and a few others flagged so far :)

He has been squashed like a bug now. The rep is down to (3)! /cheer Good riddance, scammer!!!

I hate the fact that its so hard to make an account. I love the fact that we are able to flag the fakes into obscurity. That's what sets steemit apart.
