They left home with heavy hearts
As people led to the slaughter.
They defiled the scorching sun of the desert
And broke the laws of nature
By surviving on their own wastes.
For greener pastures they went
But into slavery they fell.
The seas swallowed hers, and the land persecuted the rest.
The souls of the slain, forever aggrieved
Betrayed by brothers and kins
Sold as chattels in a land
Not foreign, but not home.
They thought they were one Africa.
The shocked faces of their ghosts
Live to tell the tale of misery clad in bitterness and gloom.
