Packable Down Vests

I almost bought a packable down vest at Costco yesterday but had an intuitive thought to look into "down" more closely... the misconception is that down is a by-product of the meat industry when, in fact, 50-80% of down is plucked from LIVE birds - at least in China - who are these psychopaths who could have come up with this idea? who are the psychopaths or secondary psychopaths who could actually follow the orders to do such a thing? I only shop at thrift stores anymore and "packable" down is still the rage so it is too expensive for me to buy anyway - but I was almost persuaded because the vests were so cheap... but the price of my convenient warmth is not equaled to this kind of suffering... I think "convenience" is another word for "evil" ....
