Selling Into Slavery in the Name of Independence

The fight for freedom is an ancient act. Fighting for personal freedom occurs every day around the world, but those who attain it and keep it forever use wisdom above all available tools.

As a student of history, I have read a lot about how groups, communities, villages, town and nations gain independent, it’s always never easy and sometimes it’s always brutal. The most unfortunate part of it all is that, while some do this sincerely, there are some initiators who make the move for selfishness.

One fight for group independent that I could made mention of is the fight against apartheid in South Africa by Nelson Mandela. It is really a “Long Walk for Freedom” as detail in his autobiographical work written by himself and first published in 1994 by Little Brown & Co. The book profiles his early life, coming of age, education and 27 years in prison. It is a good example of fighting for independent with sincerity. Eventually, he was realized from prison and served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election.

Another fight for peoples right and freedom is the “The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom” proclaimed to be the largest political rallies for human rights in United States history.

"The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, the March on Washington, or The Great March on Washington, was one of the largest political rallies for human rights in United States history and demanded civil and economic rights for African Americans. It took place in Washington, D.C. Thousands of Americans headed to Washington on Tuesday, August 27, 1963. On Wednesday, August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr., standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial, delivered his historic "I Have a Dream" speech in which he called for an end to racism.

The march was organized by A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin, who built an alliance of civil rights, labor, and religious organizations that came together under the banner of "jobs and freedom". Estimates of the number of participants varied from 200,000 to 300,000; the most widely cited estimate is 250,000 people. Observers estimated that 75–80% of the marchers were black.

The march is credited with helping to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and preceded the Selma Voting Rights Movement which led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965." - wikipedia

This event was popularly remembered following Martin Luther King Jr. speech on that day title “I have a dream” ranked the top American speech of the 20th century in a 1999 poll of scholars of public address.

In your fight for personal or group freedom, did you have a dream or you are following your lustful desire? At what level on sincerity are you operating? Hope you are not part of the corrupt ones fighting for independent. Are you supporting the fight with ignorance and sentiment or with fact and figure? The future has answers for all these.

I don’t know when we Africans will start appreciating what we have. We develop other nations right here in our continent blaming our leaders. It is true we have corrupt leaders, but we followers are as corrupt as our leaders. Our culture is outdated, our language is vernacular, and our food is an alternative for us in our own land. We import everything we can produced locally, we promote other nations activities against our own, today every soccer lovers is a fans of one foreign football league or another while our local league is unheard of. Just as the days of slavery, we still sell ourselves to slavery through all these acts.

In the name of independent, people are celebrating a foreign elected president in our nation. It is ridiculously self selling into slavery, in the name of receiving cheap assistant that will not last if at all it was given. Except for view individuals among them who are truly philanthropists, we should know by now that they are part of our problems. They are like devil according to the Yoruba adage that says, “The devil give fowl rear in other to collect cow at the end.”

The reality is that dream always come true
