Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his first-ever official visit to Indonesia met President Joko Widodo at the Merdeka Palace, one of the presidential palaces in Indonesia. Later, while addressing a gathering of Indian diaspora at the Jakarta Convention Centre in the Indonesian capital, Indian PM went on to announce his plans to strengthen India-Indonesia ties and his token of goodwill was the 30-day free visa to India for the citizens of the country. ,
In his speech PM Modi said, “Not only do the names of our nations rhyme but also there is a distinct rhythm in the India-Indonesia friendship.” To the first time Indonesia travelers to India he said, “Many of you may never have been to India.
