“The soul of India lives in its villages”
This famous observation made by Mahatma Gandhi, long time ago is still a fact.
The rural population comprises the core of Indian society.
What does “The “rural sector" means?
- Any place with a population of less than 5.000
- Density of population less than 400 per sq km.
- More than 25 % of the male working population" is engaged in the agriculture sector.
From 2005 the Indian government started programs meant to improve the standards of living in villages and rural areas: water supply, housing, telecommunication and information technology, roads, electrification and irrigation.
