The dam was worked in 1957 over the Amaravathi River. The Reservoir and the Chinnar, Thennar and Pambar waterways that deplete into it are known for South India's biggest wild reproducing populace of Mugger Crocodiles. The Amaravathi Sagar Crocodile Farm is the biggest Crocodile nursery in India with around 100 crocodiles. Built up in 1976, Crocodile Farm is 1 km before the Amaravathy Dam.

There is a well spread out stop close to the dam with serene environment. Amaravathi Nagar is associated by transport with Pollachi vial Udumalpet. More transport associations are accessible from Udumalpet.

Timings of the Park and Crocodile Farm: 9:00 to 18:00
