Bahan utama makanan ini adalah mie kuning kemudian ditambah daging ayam dan sayur. Namun kamu jangan membayangkan bahwa mie ayam itu hanya terdiri dari mie, ayam dan sayur saja.
Untuk menambah kenikmatan mie ayam, jangan lupa tambahkan saos kecap khusus.Saos ini menjadi pembeda antara mie ayam dan mie lainnya di Indonesia.
Biasanya mie ayam juga disajikan dengan tambahan bakso, pangsit dan jamur, sesuai dengan selera masing-masing.
