Free Trade Area and Free Trade Entity Sabang (BPKS) is a body formed by the government through Law number 37 of 2000 on Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law No. 2 of 2000 on Free Trade Area and Sabang Free Port into Law. And further strengthened in Law No. 11 of 2006 on the Government of Aceh.

The existence of Sabang Area Exploitation Agency (BPKS) has had an impact both directly and indirectly, especially for Sabang and Indonesia in general as the driving force for economic development to pursue the development and development of Aceh Province so as to be a driver and model for the development of other areas in Indonesia .

The main task of the Sabang Area Development Agency (BPKS) is to implement the management, development and development of Sabang Area in accordance with the functions of Sabang Area as mandated in Article 6 paragraph 2 of Law No. 37 Th.2000.

The functions of Sabang Area are intended as a place to develop businesses in the fields of trade, services, industry, mining and energy, transportation, maritime and fisheries (including international ports of import-export and ship ports), post and telecommunications, banking, insurance, tourism, processing, packaging, and warehouse of agricultural, plantation, fishery and industrial products.

Sabang has a strategic location at the gate of Malacca Strait and Epicentrum Andaman Custer has offered to some shippingline of the world to come, transit or transshipment which has long been known as deep sea port. Status of Sabang Area as Free Trade Zone and Free Port area has incentive in the form of Tax free, VAT-free, VAT-free, Value-Added Tax (VAT), and import-export tax free and valid for 70 years based on Law / 37/2000 on stipulation of Sabang as a free trade area and free port.

The vision of BPKS is "Developing the Sabang Area as a leading Center for World Trade Service". To achieve this vision embodied in several missions namely;

Develop port services for next generation ships.
Developing services for world trade through the Free Trade Area.
Develop services for the world's cruise ship operating base for ASEAN and Nusantara tourism.
Developing a modern fishery industry in synergy with the development of national fishery resources.
Developing the institutional of exploitation and infrastructure of international standard area.
In 2016, BPKS has declared the Year of Commercialization of all assets owned. In Tourism sector, BPKS has built Tugu Km Nol Indonesia Renovation along with its supporting facilities, Marina Port and supporting Infrastructure such as Road to spotspot tour, bridge in Pulo Aceh, Water installation etc. Port Sector; BPKS has constructed the Container Port Dock for the Port International in Sabang Bay.

Fisheries Sector; BPKS has also built a Fishery Port in Pulo Aceh, Aceh Besar District. Industrial Sector; has been built industrial area in Balohan and trade sector has been the establishment of PTSP to serve various licensing services, especially Foreign Direct Investment (Foreign Investment) as a form of delegation of authority PP 83/2010 on delegation of government authority to the Council of Sabang Area.

Last but Not least, Hopefully the publication of the book "The Beauty of Indonesian Tourism" can provide new colors for Weh Island (Sabang) especially in the Tourism sector which has become the International and Domestic Tourism Destinations. The Sabang area is located between 5O46'28 "- 5O54'28" North Latitude and 95O13'12 "- 95O22'36" East Longitude, consisting of Sabang City (Pulau Weh, Klah Island, Rubiah Island, Seulako Island and Rondo Island) and Pulo Aceh Sub-district (Pualu Breuh, Pulau Nasi, and Pulau Teunom) of Aceh Besar District and the surrounding small islands.

The area of Sabang is 122.14 Km2 and Pulo Aceh has an area of 241 Km2. The location of Sabang is very strategic, located in the international shipping line of the Malacca Strait and flanked by the Indonesian Ocean. Sabang's position that has easy accessibility by sea and air has made Sabang a gateway for foreign investment inflows, goods and services that are useful for improving the welfare of the people of Sabang, Aceh and Indonesia.

Port Balohan
Balohan Port has been the entrance and exit of tourists to and from Sabang which takes only 45 minutes by fast boat and 1.5 hours by slow boat (Ro Ro ferry). This harbor is also a traffic center for Sabang and Banda Aceh people who work or trade in two separate areas of the Indian Ocean. A number of supporting facilities are spread around Balohan Port. Starting from ATM machines, musolla, restaurants, lodging, and souvenir shops. There are also local residents who offer motorcycle rental services, taxi services, and motor becak.

Maimun Saleh Airport

Air transportation has been active again in Sabang since May 6, 2015 with the official launch of Garuda Indonesia flight of Sabang-Kualanamu route. Maimun Saleh Airport has a runway runway along the 1850 meters and 30 meters wide is the landing of Garuda Indonesia ATR 72-600 Explore aircraft. The Sabang-Kualanamo flight uses GA 7112 flight, with a long flight of about 1hr 30 minutes. This route will be served 2x a week (Friday-Sunday) with ticket prices starting from Rp. 599,000 one way.

Diving

Sports diving tour can be done almost in all waters of Sabang. His underwater wealth attracted the attention of divers from local to foreign countries. There are a variety of coral reefs and marine biota, which houses 538 species of ornamental fish such as angel fish, surgeon fish, parrot fish, scorpion fish, lion fish and clown fish. There are various dive levels on Pulau Weh.

In some places in Sabang, it also provides diving rental services, such as Rubiah Tirta Divers and Scuba Weh at Teupin Layeue Beach, Dolphin Diving Center at Gapang Beach, and The Pade Resort in Balek Gunong. The favorite diving points in Sabang are Batee Dua Gapang, Batee Meuroron, Batee Tokong, Batee Gla, Batee Meuduroe, Rubiah Sea Garden, Seulako Drift, Shark Plateu, The Canyon, Pantee Idheu, Pantee Peunateueng, Sophie Rickmer, Volcano Underwater, Tugboat , and Limbo Gapang.
CT 1 pier (Multipurpose)
This harbor has a length of 185 Meters dock and 25 Meter Width, with a depth of 17-19 Meters. Export-import, loading and unloading each month is done in this port. As many as 70% of them conduct commercial activities and 30% more non-commercial activities. One of the non-commercial activities is a cruise ship visit. As part of Sabang Free Port, Port CT 1 has completed the requirements for loading and unloading with adequate supporting facilities and already has the ISPS Code number from IMO as a requirement of an international port.
Marina Port
Marina port under construction in Lhok Weng is also a mainstay of BPKS in the future to improve the industrial and tourism sector in Sabang Area. This harbor is located in a small bay flanked by mangrove forests and protected forests. The calm waters around this port also have the potential of underwater tourism other than intended as a yacht ship berthuhnya.

Tourism Sector
Sabang area that has beautiful underwater and beautiful atsmosphere has become the main attraction for foreign and domestic tourists to visit Sabang. Visits of foreign tourists in 2015 amounted to 5,582 and wisnus of 623,635 people increased compared to the year 2014 the number of tourists 3,564 and wisnus 512.992 people. Currently Sabang has become a National and International Tourism Destinations. The number of cruise (yacht) and Yatch (sailboat) also increased.

Even in 2016 this Sabang has 17 cruise call. Cruise-flagged as MS.Amadea, MS. Albatros, MS.Silver whisper, MS.Seabourn Legend, MS.Artania and YVTters MV.Tahiland Agressor and many more. Target 2017 Sabang able to have 50 cruise call with the number of tourists as much as 1 million people.

The underwater riches are the main attraction of Weh Island. Every day the waters of Pulau Weh, especially around Iboih and Gapang, are characterized by snorkeling and diving activities by domestic and foreign tourists. In addition, it is also developed land tourism which aims to introduce the history and culture of local communities to the international world. The Japanese occupation of World War II also enriched Sabang's tourism potential, such as the Japanese Bunker spread across Sabang mainland.

Likewise with the history of Islam in the past known as the Land 44 Aulia, which is marked by relics such as tombs, drums, and the names of the regions taken from the name of the aulia. No less interesting, Sabang also presents cultural attractions, such as the hospitality of local residents and cultural values in the daily life of the community. Tourism to be developed should be the implementation of cooperation between Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand for the sector of economic growth in terms of tourism sector utilization.
