Several World Countries Offer Aid for Earthquake and Tsunami Victims in Palu

As many as ten countries in the world offer assistance for the needs of earthquake and tsunami victims in Palu City and Donggala Regency, Monday (1/10/2018).

The ten countries are Australia, the United States, Morocco, South Korea, the European Union, China, Singapore, Turkey, the Philippines and Switzerland.

Head of the Center for Data, Information and Public Relations of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said, today the Ministry of Foreign Affairs representatives will meet with ambassadors who have previously offered assistance.

He added, the acceptance of international assistance has already had its own mechanism and has been regulated in regulations.

"So there has been an official statement from the government (the country receives international assistance), BNPB together with the ministries and agencies prepare forms, the foreign ministry provides information but specifically to countries that will provide assistance," said Sutopo at the BNPB office, Utan Kayu, Jakarta East, Monday (1/10/2018).

After that, it was arranged how the aid could be distributed to refugees and victims in Palu and Donggala.

Sutopo added, in this case the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance (AHA Center) would assist the registration and coordination process for international assistance.

"At present the AHA Center has distributed aid to Palu," Sutopo said.

Since the earthquake measuring magnitude 7.4 shook and the tsunami struck Palu City and Donggala Regency on Friday (9/28/2018) at 17.02, casualties and damage continued to increase.

Until Monday at 1:00 p.m., there were 844 people dead, 90 missing, and 632 seriously injured and hospitalized. In addition, there were 48,025 people displaced in 103 points in the City of Palu.
