A recent study conducted by a team of Iranian scientists analyzed 129 studies on the benefits of avocado consumption in the components of metabolic syndrome.
Metabolic syndrome is a term used to describe a combination of three or more risk factors for the occurrence of heart disease and diabetes, namely high blood pressure, high triglyceride levels, and wide waist circumference.
The research team concluded that avocados are most useful in terms of cholesterol levels. Routine consumption of this fruit can lower levels of bad cholesterol, triglycerides, and total cholesterol. In addition, good cholesterol levels also increased.
"The effects of lowering blood fat, antidiabetic, antiobesity, antithrombosis, and cardiovascular protection were also found in several studies," the researchers said in a report in the journal Phytotherapy Research.
The results of this study further confirmed the status of avocado as a super fruit.
Cynthia Sass, a nutritionist who was not involved in the study, said the avocado also helps reduce belly fat, the most dangerous type of fat.
Avocado has a healthy fat content and also has a filling effect. So, this fruit is highly recommended by those who want to lose weight and reduce saturated fat intake.
Another advantage of avocado is the content of antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and minerals.
"Avocados fit in a variety of dishes, which can mix with sweet or savory ingredients," says Sass.
However, for the best benefits, you should not consume avocado with added sugar.
