Week 2 of my Infinity War Preparation – 2018 MCU Re-Watch
After a 1940's set introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe via The First Avenger and Agent Carter we jump more than 60 years along the timeline to meet the son of Howard and heir to Stark Industries, Tony Stark.
Watching these films in chronological sequence means the potted history of the Starks we receive in the prologue works as a nice bridge from Cap & Carter, before we focus on Iron Man's origin.
I have to say that for some reason I wasn't as in to this as on the previous viewings. The plot, humour, action and villains all combine well but the impact is perhaps diluted nowadays by all that followed. However, it is still a great ride, with Robert Downey Jr. being perfect casting - he's an arrogant prick but we love him!
This time around I noticed Stark had a certain Spider-Man quality to him, especially in the finale; quipping away despite being outmatched.
Being the first released film in the MCU it's quite insular but the subtle thread of S.H.I.E.L.D running through it hints at the wider Universe...
To Infinity: N/A
Post-Credit Scene: Technically not much happens but the future ramifications (and quotability) of the speech still make me smile.
Next Up: Iron Man 2
