Why don't birds fall off trees while sleeping?

Winged animals can't tumble off a roost when sleeping. Each toe is associated with a string inside the leg. At the point when the leg is twisted, the strings extend tight and brace the toes around the branch. It takes more vitality to leave the roost than to remain there.
