Ogochukwu: What is the best money you have ever spent as a writer?

Dreemit: One of the fantastic aspects of steemit is the ability to connect with people of diverse talents. It was on this platform that I became friends with the incredible writer and artist @therealpaul whom I commissioned to create the cover of Reborn. Covers are extremely important and he did a beautiful job, to the extent that I will be commissioning him for every book in the series. See the progression of his painting and read about our combined project here

Ogochukwu: What do you think are the most important magazines for writers to subscribe to?

Dreemit: Honestly the only magazine I have ever found personally helpful is The Writer’s Digest; until steemit of course. Now I have The Fiction-Trail and The Literature-Trail, both which I find extremely promising.

Ogochukwu: What was an early experience where you learned that language has power?

Dreemit: There are many ways in which this question can be interpreted, but since this is an interview about the written word then it would have to be the first time I ever played ‘peace keeper’ among my close group of friends via letters. I was able to clearly express the positions of each person involved in such a way that it encouraged a level of empathy and self-reflection without any one of them feeling they were entirely to blame. I’m happy to report that it led to a full reconciliation of my young teenage girlfriends, a group who are still my friends today ;)

Ogochukwu: What is your favourite under-appreciated novel?

Dreemit: I would find it hard to choose only one, it would be easier to name a favorite under-appreciated author, and for that I would go with the Urban Fantasy writer Stacia Kane. (Her Downside series is unique and extremely engaging)

Ogochukwu: How do you choose the name of your characters?

Dreemit: For most of what I write it almost seems that the characters choose their own names, as they tend to just float into my mind as their personalities form. For Reborn however, I loosely based a number of the female characters on close girl-friends of mine and chose names beginning with the letters of each of their first names (with the exception of Anna).

Ogochukwu: What was your hardest scene to write in REBORN?

Dreemit: I suppose that depends on what you mean by hard. If you mean emotionally then it is one that I have yet to publish and so I’m afraid I can’t disclose it.
Otherwise I would say the most difficult scene involves Anna and Jack. It was necessary for the overall plot as what she went through will strongly come into play in the next book, but it was tough to do it in such a way that it wasn’t awkward.

Ogochukwu: Have you read anything that made you think differently about fiction?

Dreemit: Yes, in fact there was a point in my late teens and early twenties when I had become a bit of a snob when it came to fiction, either reading what was considered intellectual such as Ayn Rand, or philosophical like Richard Bach, with the only exceptions being authors like Stephen King. Romance novels? Absolutely not. Then one day while visiting my parents in my later twenties I discovered a book peeking out from under my mother’s pillow. It was a historical romance, and while I can’t say that I fell in love, I certainly found it well-written and entertaining, and it piqued my curiosity causing me to branch out. To the extent that I have embraced virtually all genres and only dislike a book if the characters are not believable or the story is poorly written. Ironically I had felt this way before entering ‘adulthood’, and looking back I realize my ‘child self’ could have taught my early ‘adult’ self a thing or two.

Ogochukwu: What is the first book that made you cry?

Dreemit: A Bridge to Terabithia which I read when I was around seven or eight. (Long before the movie was ever made)

It's an honor to be mentioned here in this interview by the fine writer @dreemit, and I really do feel fortunate that she asked me to illustrate one of her book series. Such an engaging author, dreemit inspired me to create some of my best artwork for the cover of Reborn, I'm quite proud of it. Now I've been lured into the Reborn story and can't stop reading it, I care what happens to the characters, and the way the story moves is spooky yet familiar and believable, it's required-reading for me on steemit!
Thanks for the great interview @literature-trail.

Hello @therealpaul
It is a great honour having an illustrious steemian like you on the trail, your good works have borne testimony to your character.

Thanks

Thank you @therealpaul, your words mean a lot to me, and Reborn was incomplete without your inspired touch.
I look forward to working with you on every book of the series :)

Me too! I'm starting to 'see' some of the character's faces now too. ;)

Once again I would like to thank @literature-trail and @ogochukwu for this excellent opportunity. I hope you are successful in your endeavors and look forward to reading interviews from the multitude of great authors on the site.
