America, the land where anyone with a dream can take that dream...head down to the local venture capitalist and get a bucket full of cash to sell their idea and soul to the machine for some green paper that loses value each year.
How can I help?
The current state of innovation in the United States has stagnated into a pigs trough of take someone else's idea that was created in the past to solve a problem and add the latest buzz words to it.
This is a battle cry, bring back the innovation, the hackers, the fiddlers the junkyard creators.
I have been considering the idea of opening up a maker space in my local area. We are a college town, and I want to impart some of the good ole 'get er done' attitude on the current generation. The show me before I do anything generation needs to grow into the tinker with it until I break it or it works wisdom.
So what does a modern maker space need to bring wisdom to the young?
For a short list I was thinking.
- Tools
- Workbenches
- Forge
- Computers/Parts
- Teensy's or rasperry pi's
- A 3d printer or two with different materials.
- A place to brainstorm, so whiteboards and couches.
