Do you want to change your life? Do you want to be happier, healthier, and wealthier? This post will show you the crucial first step towards making that happen.
Most people are aware of what isn’t working in their life. They go around talking about how bad things are. Yet, so few people do anything about it. The reason is that they are stuck in a state of helplessness. They believe that they do not have the power to change their situation. But this simply is not true.
As humans, we have the power to change anything.
If you don’t like your weight, change it. If you don’t like your relationship, change it. If you don’t like the current state of your health, change it. If you don’t like your job or career, change it. If you don't like where you live, change it. If you don’t like your salary, change it. You can change anything!
You might wonder, how can I change these things? But that is the wrong question most people ask. For example, lots of people want to lose weight and get healthy, yet they don’t succeed. Why? Because they are focused on how to lose weight, exercise and diet, and as a result they feel disempowered to take those actions and eventually stop, never losing the weight or gaining it all back again. What do you focus on when you think of how to lose weight by dieting and exercising? Do you focus on foods you have to give up and how you’ll be starving by reducing the amount of food you consume? Do you focus on how exercising will make you feel sore, sweat, and how hard it will be to push through those difficult exercises? Focusing on how disempowers you from taking action towards your goals, making it an uphill battle towards getting what you want. But there is a better and easier way.
Before you can ask and answer how you can change things, you first need to ask why. Why do you want to be healthy? Why do you want to make more money? Why do you want more love and growth in your relationships? Why do you want to lose weight? Why do you want to more energy? Why? When you answer this powerful question you will feel the power within you to change anything that is holding you back from the life you want. The question why is what focuses our attention away from what we don’t want (in the example above diet and exercise) and towards what we do want (the goal — losing weight and being healthy). That shift in focus is the crucial first step towards changing your life for the better.
Do not get stuck asking how to change, ask why instead.
Why is a powerful question because it empowers you to take action. How does a why question change the results of the example above? There are many possible reasons why people want to change, one reason why, may be a special occasion comes up and you want to lose weight so that when you walk into the room on this special occasion you see everyone’s eyes on you and when people approach you they say “Wow! You look fantastic!”. The reasons why empower you to take action even when you’d rather avoid those very actions, like dieting and exercising.
When you answer a why question in an empowering way you will be pulled towards your goal, it will feel effortless, no will power is necessary.
There is a simple way to know if you are answering why in an empowering way, it should feel invigorating. You will feel unstoppable, you will be confident that you will achieve your goal and that nothing can stop you! The more you focus on the reasons why you want to change and how great you will feel when you have achieved your goal, the better.
What do you want to change? And why do you want to change? How do you feel when you focus on why you want to change? And how does that compare to how you feel when you focus on how you’re going to change? Take time right now to answer these questions, your life is more important than your to do list. Don’t just move on to something else, stop and put your life first, complete this exercise and it will put you on the right path where working towards your goals feels effortless and more importantly, invigorating.
Focus on why daily and change will happen.
