Truly Wise – God’s Word Today and Thoughts to Ponder

Proverbs 12:15 NCV

“Fools think they are doing right, but the wise listen to advice.”

Thoughts to Ponder:

A second opinion? Why do I need it?People rarely take a chance with this option as most of the time a base idea has taken root in their minds, and they are clearly convinced that it is the right thing to do or the only right thing to do. This attitude can be seen in most aspects of our lives and we would fight tooth and nail though the heavens may fall, even if at some point we would recognize later on we were wrong — relationships be damned.

 In matters of health or shall I say, life or death, we have an opposite approach – we certainly would seek a second opinion! Why?It is because we then come to grips with our mortality. We would like to believe that there is a more clearer explanation as to why it happened or even hoping that there is an error somewhere so that we can live in a manner that is fit for the situation at hand; in turn this will actually help us live wiser and number our days accordingly. In times of realization we tend to become more receptive to advice.

King Solomon said clearly in our text today, that we sometimes act foolish by not listening to advice and going on through life on our own. Those who are truly wise would usually seek a second opinion, especially from a voice of reason that God would use.

Opening our eyes and ears to advice will not hurt us; it will actually make us see things in a better perspective. Let us remember as well, our decisions and the characters we mold now is actually a matter of life or death in terms of our eternal salvation.

Dear Father,

Help us to open our eyes and ears to wise advice coming from You through Your chosen agents. Help us as well to recognize the agents You use.

Lastly, we pray that you’ll give us humble hearts to be led and be molded so that our characters would take the form of what You what us to be.
