Andaz Hotel, Singapore – A newly opened hotel, only a few months old, located in the heart of Bugis area where it is only a walking distance to the hipster neighbourhood of Kampong Glam, the trendy malls – Bugis Junction and Bugis+, and of course the famous Bugis Street Market for all the street food and cheap finds.
At a first glance:
Andaz Hotel Singapore is located at the top floors of the iconic DUO Towers, right behind Parkview Square. It is a bit confusing to get into the hotel with the minimal signage pointing towards the hotel. Checking-in the hotel would actually take you to the lobby which is on the 25th floor, also known as Alley on 25. Alley on 25 also houses different F&B concepts such as Bar Square, Ice Haus, Plancha’Lah!, Smoke and Pepper and The Green Oven.
The check-in was a breeze. We didn’t have to wait at the counter and we were offered to sit at their lounge area, The Sunroom, with a panoramic view of Singapore and complimentary drinks and food to fill our parched throats and empty stomachs as we wait for our check-in to be done.
There are TWG teas, beers, infused waters, Nespresso coffee and many more. What a great guest experience to begin with!
The ambiance was great, filled with stylish furniture and trendy lights.
Design Concept and Style:
Getting inspiration from the rich culture of Singapore, Andre Fu also known as AFSO designed the hotel incorporating local elements such as the shutter doors and vibrant colors, the concept of shophouses being portrayed in the side by side layout of the restaurants while merging the whole look with modern twists.
In my opinion as a designer, I don’t really see the Kampong Glam influence at first until explained to me by the receptionist. I think it is washed out by too many modern touches. It could use a little bit of punch through those aged finishes or those eclectic pieces of furniture as seen in the neighborhood.
Regardless of my opinion, the hotel is still jaw-droppingly beautiful.
Guestroom Experience:
Going up the find our room, we are met with a simple corridor and a large atrium that spans the topmost floor.
Outside the guestroom door is the keycard access system but unlike the typical black box mounted on top of the door handle, they have it designed to actually look like a letter box. Very creative!!
The room reveal was the moment I was most interested in. my curiosity peaked when we opened the door and found a huge room that was supposed to be a standard King Room.
Comparing this property to other hotels, this is definitely worth every penny. You are paying for the service, the experience, the amenities and the spaciousness of the room. Such generous space can hardly be found in other Hotels without paying a huge sum.
The conjoined bathroom houses a beautiful vanity with a view of the other DUO tower and cityscape. The same view can also be found in the water closet area, complete with automated timber Venetian blinds for privacy.
What amazes me were the amenities provided by the room. Shampoo and body wash by Christophe Laudamiel, a famous French master perfumer who has worked with the likes of Estee Lauder, Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford and Clinique to name a few…
The minibar is stocked with snacks and drinks and is all complimentary but alcoholic beverages on the table are not.
This is the first ever Andaz Hotel in Southeast Asia by Hyatt Hotels Corporation.
The hotel has been growing its name to be one of the upcoming trendy hotels that focuses on the millennial travel lifestyle rather than the typical formal hotels. This means that they focus a lot on their guest experience: the accessibility, mobility, gimmicks, hip designs through unconventional materials and methods, and cultural integration.
Gone are the days where hotels have to be cladded in marbles with extravagant chandeliers and plush carpets!
@iammegankylie Thanks for your in-depth sharing of this hotel .. I've dropped a couple of food delivery to the adjacent Duo Residence .. but never had the chance to really check out the hotel side.
