Topic statement:

It is generally believed that the internet is an excellent means of communication but some people suggest that it may not be the best place to find information. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Introduction

The acquisition of information in this technological world is quite interesting. The rise of the internet has given everyone the chance to obtain information that were in the past, hard to find. The increasing usage and popularity of internet have sparked controversies, especially regarding the accuracy and quality of contents being released from it. Most people argue that the internet provides the best information, while some doubt the reliability of these information.

Positive argument

There are many ways the internet helped people communicate easier and better. The first thing that comes to mind is email. The email revolutionized the very essence of communication and through it, we can communicate with anyone from around the world easily. From the emails, the social media networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter made online communication more intimate and more fun. Even big companies now are taking advantage of the internet as they are slowly migrating their businesses to the virtual world. For example, academic and entertainment books and publications are published online where people can download them for easier access. Another example are the newspaper companies; they now publish their news on their websites and on their social media networks.

Critiques and opinions

With the ease of access to internet, some critics doubt the reliability of these information. Everyone who knows their way around the internet can publish any information without proper, formal, or professional validation. A good example are websites and blogs spreading false and highly-sensational topics and news. These types of information can destroy the reputation of the people involved in it, and can also distract people from the real issues. They can claim truth and quality to their contents without actually having to undergo some kind of certification to do so.

In my opinion, it is up to us, users, to censor ourselves in our usage of the internet. It has rich, accurate, and valuable information if we know how to find them. Recently, Google has implemented some kind of algorithm to remove websites that are of low quality from the search results. This is a great way of helping us to find the information that we needed from the right resources.

Conclusion

This post discussed the internet as a great way to communicate information, the negative aspect of it, and what we need to do in order to filter out the good information from the bad ones.
