The internet age is making language more important than geography in defining the borders of communities. I have noticed how, in the places I visit online, very small English-speaking countries like New Zealand are represented more than enormous non-English-speaking countries like Brazil or Russia. The internet is merging all English speakers across the world into a single community (which will inevitably develop a single culture), and I bet it's probably doing the same to Spanish speakers, French speakers etc.
Side effect: From the dawn of the internet up to now, the online Anglosphere has been dominated by Americans, because of their numbers. But IRL, the country with the most English speakers is actually India. Already I'm noticing that some of the most popular articles on the English Wikipedia are about Indian topics. We may be about to see a major shift in the online Anglosphere.
