  • at 3.6B, the number of Internet users surpassed half of the world's population
  • 0 growth in the smartphone sales in 2017
  • 5.9hours/day spent with digital media per adult user
  • despite Google and Apple’s latest release of smartphones priced at $1000, the smartphone prices are decreasing
  • Twitch Streaming hours increased from 13m to 17m. Fortnite Battle Royale is the most watched game on Twitch
  • Google ML Word Accuracy - 95%
  • Amazon Echo installed based almost tripled in 2017 (from 11m to 31m)
  • 17m nextdoor recommendations (people asking for a plumber and receiving recommendations, people posting real time news they encountered)
  • Facebook annualised revenue per daily user - $34
  • regulatory scrutiny increases
  • Immigration remains important for U.S. tech companies. More than half of the most highly valued tech companies in the U.S. are founded by first- or second-generation immigrants. Uber, Tesla, WeWork and Wish all have first-generation founders
  • ~ 3mm Uber Global Driver-partners earning on average $21/hour, 91% of them working for extra income
  • ~2mm global active sellers on Etsy, 97% operate @home
  • 5m global active listings on Airbnb, 80% share the home in which they live, 60% of ‘Superhosts’ identify as Women
  • iOS number of apps increases from less than 5000 in 2008 to 2m+ in 2018;
  • cloud computing costs continue to decrease
  • 55B messages/day sent on Whatsapp
  • 900% query growth for “…” near me on Google between 2015-2017
  • largest spend increase in 2018 will be seen in projects related to networks and AI
  • USA consumers per Deloitte: 79% are willing to share personal data for ‘Clear Personal Benefit’
  • actions taken by customers to address data privacy concerns: 64% deleted/avoided certain apps, 47% adjusted mobile pivacy settings, 28% disabled cookies, 26% closely read privacy agreements
  • America and Europe encourage regulation. In contrast, China is encouraging data collection.
