Hey guys, I am really excited to be part of this community. I heard about Steemit from a friend a few months back who told me about how this forum incentivises and encourages creativity--and I was sold. I am really late in introducing myself(I joined in July) but I hope this artwork makes up for it :)steemit01.jpg

The sleepy little one in the corner is Yogurt. As you might have gathered, I love dogs just like many of us, and started a new hobby in cartooning. I hope to keep practising and posting these doodles here--hopefully it can also lighten up the day a little :)

More about me: I make documentaries for a living but the way I got here was a little unconventional. I never went to film school and upon my graduation from college, all i wanted to do was to get a decent, stable job to pay off my tuition fees. Just like a lot of us here. I ended up working in the government sector for 2.5 years. It was everything a college graduate could ask for--plenty of employment benefits, great salary, decent work hours. But it wasn't the right fit for me. That was when I took the plunge. I quit the job(much to the horror of friends and family alike) and decided to learn how to make videos from scratch--by volunteering at an NGO in India. It turned out to be a life changer on so many levels. I was filming in the slums of Mumbai, had to hide from a mob in Chattisgarh, was drawn to tears by the struggles of Gandhi's freedom fighters and sex workers in Calcutta, sweating like a pig at an organic farm in Tamil Nadu, and was continuously inspired by every experience I had in India.

I spent a year in India, and was fortunate to have landed myself a job in making documentaries in Singapore. Ever since then, I have had the privilege to have people from different walks of life to share their stories with me--from the martial arts monks in Shaolin Monastery to rice terrace farmers(and their adorable kids) to rangers in the jungles of Borneo or scientists studying vultures in the Tianshan mountains.

Right now I am freelancing so that I have more time to hone my skills and be a better documentary filmmaker. It also gives me the space for other creative pursuits such as cartooning :) My current work might have erratic work hours, an average salary and physically challenging (I was filming a croc in a trap in the river once) but I am on a high whenever I am out filming or in the edit suite. I hope to be inspired by you guys out here to tell better stories and let's always keep our hearts and minds open to share great ideas!

Thanks for reading!
