I first became intrigued with crypto in 2013, when I noticed a funny looking ATM-like machine sitting on a pallet in the engineering lab I worked in. It was this weird looking machine with a big "B" and the word "Bitcoin" stenciled on the side. I went back to my cube to google this mysterious word. I didn't take action right away, it wasn't until later that year when I noticed many of my fellow engineers were driving fancy cars that I decided to jump in. From that point forward I started paying attention to the crypto industry. I even ended up using the Bitcoin ATM in my local mall.
EOS was a bit different. I remember hearing about it on various websites and forums, talked about by several crypto friends. At the time I didn't realize EOS was positioned to be the next server operating system. After being approached by Rob Finch to join the Cypherglass team I took a deep dive into the EOS world.
To me EOS is government by the people, for the people. Decentralized governance will allow smart people to build smart applications and allow community veto power. All while keeping organizations with lots of money from imposing their will. Decentralized governance should allow a developer to build an application that a company might not like while simultaneously preventing a developer from building an application that is harmful to society. Yes, please build the next great music sharing application. No, you may not build an application that would put minor’s in danger. Only humans with voting power can understand and make these kind of choices,!
I believe EOS has the potential to replace modern datacenter operating systems. Virtualization made it so that we no longer have to buy very expensive servers with lots of internal redundancy. Virtual SAN has made it so that we no longer have to spend crazy money on storage. Containerization has made rapid deployment of highly innovative applications possible. Allowing the genius developers to write amazing thing. Freeing them from the minutiae of running the servers. EOS will take containerization to the next level. With EOS those same genius developers can write application that will be always on and always distributed around the world.
