Hi all!
I’m new to this forum, and have been advised to #introduceyourself and tell people the reason I’m here.
So here goes. I’m a British/ Canadian, originally from the UK, who joined the British Military back in 93. I’ve been married now for almost 18 years, and have three great daughters.
I’ve been a police officer for longer than I haven’t and used to love my job. Really, I was in it to help people, no other reason.
My experience includes, but is not limited to Homicide, Surveillance, Special Victims, Traffic, Anti-Terrorism, Drugs and I’ve spent over 6 years of my career pretending to be other people as an undercover officer.
In 2005 I was recruited by Hamilton Police Service in Canada, and my wife and I emigrated. I was requested to immediately infiltrate the cities criminal population with intent to detect crimes and bring offenders to justice. And that’s what I did.
Within weeks I was working as an enforcer for a Mafia Crime Family and Hamilton Hells Angels, and was undercover for close to 18 months. The only problem, this City and its Police Service was rotten with corruption.
I was sold out by a dirty cop. A contract went out on my head and four hitmen tried to collect. I gave a good account of myself and fought them off, and even though the physical injuries I received in that altercation healed quickly, the psychological damage still lingers, even now. I developed severe PTSD, and when I’m strong enough I will write about the same.
I’ve spent the past decade detecting and outing corruption within law enforcement and Municipal City level with some success, but a surprising amount of resistance from Senior Management Teams who I mistakenly assume would want to root out criminality. They would rather ‘cover and conceal’.
I’ve found writing, or writing found me. It calms me, lets me express how I feel, but most important it blows the whistle on wrongdoing. I’ve wrote a non-fiction book about events, which started as a cathartic way to expel personal demons, and a document I could give my kids when they were older to try and explain why Daddy’s so “moody.” That took on a life of its own, and was picked up by a New York Literary Agency after seeing only chapter one. It is in dire need of an edit, but so are most things we do in life. I hope to have it released by Summer’s end.
There’s a lot more to me than this, but this seems to be the part of my life that interest people the most. Thanks for reading.
