Hopping aboard the Steem boat - intro

Steemit Ahoy!

As per tradition, I'd like to introduce myself to the community.

My name is Anka, I'm 33, currently living in South Florida USA. I'm an artist, a sailor, a health-nut, a traveler, a quail-tamer, a tea lover, a thinker, quadrilingual… and painfully new to crypto. I discovered Steemit through Andres @meno - who is also my partner in crime (life). His new fascination with Steem is extremely contagious and now I want to learn more about this place, crypto-currency, how it all works and be part of what seems to be the future.

Tea Break!

Ok, back to my story. I was born in Russia, grew up in Israel during the 90’s and now live in Florida with my eyes on the next destination. As a result of living in the tropics, with miles of beaches and doing design work for local marine companies, I discovered a passion for sailing. This year I completed my first sailing course, participated is several local regattas with an awesome crew and put myself on a journey to find my future home on the water - an experience that I’m acquiring this very moment and would love to share with anyone who may find themselves like me - tired of land (especially the flatness of Florida). I hope my better half is on board, otherwise i'll have to restrict myself to a 30 footer, and i'm taking the cat. =(^_^)=

Mobility is the key to freedom. I’m lucky to be doing the kind of work that doesn’t require me to stay put to specific location. Though I'm a traditionally trained painter, I mostly do graphic design and CG illustration (often vector) for clients from all over the world. Working with clients i never see led me to realize that my office is pretty much anywhere – where I have power, computer, internet and my trusty Wacom tablet. Therefore, finding a way to balance work and sailing is my main goal for the next 3-5 years. Meanwhile I’d like to also connect with artists/designers in this community to share and discuss trends, techniques discover new ways a visual content creator can make a living. I will try to also create new illustrations with every Steemit post just to challenge myself in the process.

While still on land, I have a few homestead hobbies – I’m growing fruit trees and raising Quails that provide us with daily batches of comically tiny but delicious eggs. I started this little inexpensive hobby about two years ago and have learned quite a bit about raising quails – the pros and cons - that some of the readers here might find interesting and hopefully even useful.

Another tea break! Mmmm… Ceylon and berry fusion.

OK, more about me. I can never say ‘no’ to an opportunity to escape. Traveling - alone or in company, broke or thriving, is a major source of pleasure in my life. I enjoy absorbing cultures, being with nature, the adrenaline rush and satisfaction of conquering a challenging terrain (unlike where I currently live), all the different foods, and the occasional trouble I cause in search of memorable adventures.

Other topics I find fascinating are life, happiness, religion, evolutionary-psychology, social issues, the human condition, and more. I have read several articles from fellow Steemians on these topics and would love to join the discussion with my own perspective and understanding.

One of the things I know for a fact, is that teaching or sharing knowledge is the best way to sharpen one's own knowledge. Therefore, I'd really like to encourage people to ask me questions. By attempting to fill your gap in knowledge I will examine my own knowledge and will seek to expand it in order to make a well informed and useful answer. It’s a win-win.

So this is me in short. Please help me start off a good foot with your support.

Greeting!

I discovered your page quite by accident - so I scrolled down to your intro. The photo of you painting, I could have sworn you were a friend of mine, such a likeness! And painting 'life' would also be something she would do! I actually had to go to her Facebook page to check if you were not one and the same - turns out not. I like your work, shall be watching for more!
