Introducing @burstingquads. That's me:)

Hello Steemians! My name is Rye.

Here’s a photo of me and my dog Brandi.

I’ve been lurking for a while, and I finally convinced myself to write the first post today. I can be quite introverted sometimes, and I am nervous about putting myself out there, especially online. However I am an advocate for cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, and I’ve felt the need to “walk the talk”. I believe in building a better world where everyone has access to opportunities that rewards individuals for his/her creativity, productivity and contributions. I want to see and live in a world where no one is limited from pursuing his/her dreams and interests, and everyone is able to make a living and create success doing what he/she loves.

Steemit is the best evidence of that world, and that’s why I am here! I’ve been trying to tell all my friends and family about the world-changing potential of blockchain technology, the idea of decentralization, and multiple income streams, but often my enthusiasm is met with skepticism and the looks of “Oh, you millennials are so crazy!”.

So, I’m going to show my friends how it’s done :D I have no idea what I am doing, and I am definitely not a writer. However, I am going to try, and hope in a year, I’d look back at this and say this was the best decision I ever made.

When I am not researching crypto or talking to my husband @nylan (the handsome dude above <3) about how amazing the future is going to be thanks to technology, I like to lift heavy weights :P

Olympic Weightlifting

Olympic weightlifting has been a passion of mine for the last couple of years. I train under the guidance of two amazing people and coaches, Chad & Jodi Vaughn at Vaughn Weightlifting (http://www.vaughnweightlifting.com), Belton, Texas. Olympic weightlifting (#Oly , for short) deserves many posts on its own and probably a hashtag already, but I just want to briefly say that this sport was my savior when I was dealing with life changes and husband’s deployments in the last couple of years, keeping me sane, healthy and strong both mentally and physically. I will be participating in a couple of amateur competitions this year, and hope to share my experiences with you. Here’s a video of me doing a snatch @ 44kg in the Kilo Cave. I may be tiny, but I'm mighty and strong! :D

@burstingquads

So at this point, I should probably talk about how I ended up with @burstingquads as my Steemit ID. When I first found out about Steemit, the timing coincided with the end of my squat cycle for oly, and I was over the moon with my gains (muscles, not crypto..). I didn't realize that I wouldn't be able to change the username, hence I am stuck with @burstingquads ... I may not have been completely sober at the time of signing up...shhhh... In a way it's great because I have to keep working out, because I don't want to mislead y'all with shrinking quads :p (Maybe I'll grab the username shrinkingquads just in case?!)

Hm, I don't think I talked enough about who I am in this introductory post. I don't want to bore you, so here's a list of random things about me.

  • Born in South Korea & raised in Canada.
  • Currently in career transition (Foreign Affairs -> CS/Technology)
  • Speaks English, Korean and Spanish.
  • Helicopter mom to Brandi (Best dog ever!)
  • Loves traveling! (I lived in Argentina and Costa Rica in my college years, and I recently got back from a three month trip in Europe, mostly in Poland.)
  • Coffee & wine lover.
  • 420 friendly.
  • Childfree.
  • Interested in organic & natural lifestyles & spirituality & self-development & productivity.

I think this is sufficient for today! Thank you for reading my first post. I look forward to being part of the Steemit community and connecting with you.

With love,
Rye

Hi Mulia, it's so nice to meet you! Yes, I want to meet more people who support and invest in cryptocurrency. It's not easy to find likeminded people in real life, it seems. Keep in touch and all the best to you, too :)

Welcome to Steemit! Why do you think people think “Oh, you millennials are so crazy!” ? Is the Skepticism justified in your eyes?

Hello @archive.xyz!

I am so excited about the future the blockchain technology will bring, so I would talk anyone's ears off given the opportunity. Most of my older family members see the crypto market as a bubble, risky investments, and a fad that young people are gambling their money on. They just can't imagine a world without central governments, or banks. So far their skepticism is kind of justified, as I feel that I didn't explain things clearly enough. I am making progress though, I got my mom to sign up for Steemit!

Nice. Crypto is votile, but by the time it's stable, there will be several trillion dollars moved around the economy - and then it's "too expensive."

People are skeptics until it's too late, then they complain that they never invested the combined $1,000 they waste on Coffee, Lottery Tickets, Slave Labor Jeans, and Chipotle in 2018, and look back in 2025 and go - "I could've bought a new car."

Tell me about it! It's amazing how understanding of cryptocurrency has changed my perspective as a consumer. If I have some spare change, I'd rather invest in the future than buy clothes, cosmetics or coffee. I'm not into materialistic things any more. Not gonna lie though, I love me some Chipotle!!

Hahaha
