Process of creating a sand painting

I've created a short photo essay coupled with a process video shot by my friend Vanessa Gould to help illustrate the process of creating a sand painting.

Each painting takes an average of 6-8 hours to complete and is made by pouring the sand directly from my hands to the ground. I begin in the center and work my way around in a clockwise (sunrise) direction adding each color and design as I work around the whole of the painting.

People gather, people walk through, people text and are unaware of the work right in front of them. Each day is an experience in of the process. Randomness, bizarre questions, encounters with passersby and a flurry of instagram pics.

On this particular day there was a few gusts of wind which nearly blew the work away.
