These early days of Steemit remind me of the early days of YouTube. So much potential!
It feels like 2005 all over again. That's when I first found YouTube. I was amazed that I could sit in my room and watch people talk to me from all over the world. People talked about their lives, and showed us their lives. I got to know some members of the early small and close-knit YouTube community and started writing and blogging about
YouTube. 10+ years later, over 300 posts are on the blog, written by me and some paid guest bloggers. Nothing too insightful, just a way to promote videos we thought were worth watching, for one reason or another.
To me, it feels like Steemit is the start of something big, again. I can see that there is a community developing here. People reply to posts and comments. There is a discussion going on. No one really knows where we are headed, but we're excited to be along for the ride! Some of us saw what happened to YouTube over time. A large community is not like a small one, which is just the way it is. Sometimes people blow up on social media sites and put more time into building their new career rather than trying to stay close with their original circle of friends and supporters. That's the way it is, and people should try and turn their passion into a means of making a living if they so choose.
I'm here for the thrill of 2005 all over again. I'll be watching the community grow, and will post a bit to see if there's any interest in things I'd like to write about. You never know unless you try. I'm interested in a lot of things, such as music, gaming, racquetball, working out, healthy living, programming, Bitcoin, Ether, politics, religion, sociology and more. I have found many interesting articles so far, and the people here seem to be a great group!
I believe in having multiple streams of income, so I'll be interested to see if Steem can be a stream for me, and others. I have joined @steemservices "Retweet to earn Steam Power" campaign (see here). I have been an avid upvoter when I find an article here I like. I found @pfunk article on Mining in a Virtual Machine, here, and now I an mining at about 6000 hashes per second.
I'm excited to be here! Steemit has so much potential. I'm glad to be part of this community and I can't wait to see what you all do here!
great

@kenny-crane i think you are completely right! we are living this as an incredible moment to join a very high potential social network. It is like travelling into a kind of Facebook in his very first stage but already with the experience of succesfull social networks and all the strategy needed to be part of the success.

Thanks for reading and commenting! It's been a great journey so far. I have enjoyed reading lots of interesting posts and have met several cool people here. If there is a payout on the 4th then that will be nice too, but in my mind, I'm mainly here for the community and will do what I can to make it a success!

Hey Kenny,
I've been meaning to read this post since you put it up a week ago and I've just had time to now; I'm so glad I did! That's so cool that you were a Youtube early adopter as well and I'm glad you're feeling the same vibes as back in '05 :-)
I'm going to read over that @pfunk article again, I kind of glazed over the first time, but you've inspired me to try again; I don't know if 6000 hashes a second is good, but it sounds good and I want to try. :-)
Thanks for posting

CG, thanks for reading my intro! I've been here over a week now and still excited!
Actually 6k hashes per second is rather weak. But I'm still glad I tried it and was able to attempt to mine successfully. I may try it again, as it seems that everyone has a chance to be able to mine Steem if you run the mining program long enough. My electric bill is already up due to the AC being on all the time now, but maybe I'll mine in the Winter and use my computer to heat my room! If you have any questions as you try to mine, just ask and I'll see if I can help. There is a Slack channel for mining too, at https://steem.slack.com/messages/mining/details/ Good Luck!

I agree, I knew full well back in 2005 Youtube was going to be huge, but I never had the courage to step into it. To everyone reading this comment - be brave!

Wow, thanks for sharing that video! I love discovering new music on YouTube. I often think there is not a song ever recorded that is not on YouTube somewhere.
Be Brave! Great sentiment to live by. Take a chance; try something new. Do something for someone else instead of thinking of yourself. Go for it. YOLO!
Whether it's YouTube or Steem, be brave and jump in!

Glad you liked it!
I found about a half dozen similarities between your life experiences and mine. That helped me identify and empathize with what you wrote. I wish you much success with your book and your writing here and everywhere!

Well I'll mention one life experience here... I, too, up and moved halfway across the country with little available cash on hand. To borrow (steal :P) from Dickens, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..."

Hmm, I don't see the first pic, or any pic, from this post showing up in the list of posts. My first Steem fail! Well that's how we learn, right? Can anyone suggest what I did wrong, or point me to a post on here about images in posts? Thanks!

That is a known bug with pictures hosted on ipfs. Choose another (ssl) hoster for the first pic if you want it to show up.

Thanks so much for this information! It has surely helped me; I will choose another host next time. I'm sure this will help others too. I'll mention it as I speak to people about this site.
