Hello Steemit World : My Name is Sammy Berk and I am an Antique Map Dealer in Chicago, IL

I am a 33 year old dealer in Antique Maps. I work for my family business, Harlan J. Berk, Ltd. which was established by my father in 1964. While the business as a whole primarily focuses on buying and selling collectible coins (numismatics), and antiquities, I decided to start an antiquarian map department back in 2010. My previous background education was in Environmental Science with a minor in Geography from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Since 2010, I have expanded our antique map department to an inventory of well over 1,000 maps from the late 15th - 20th century. I have also started two antique map fairs in Chicago and San Francisco. The next map fair will be held in San Francisco, September 21 - 23, 2018. My brother (whom is also in the business selling antiquities and ancient coins) has co-founded a non-profit organization with me call the History in Your Hands Foundation. Our mission is to provide classrooms across America and eventually the world with authentic historical objects to be utilized in the classroom through hands on activities, thus enriching the overall learning experience. I chose to join steemit to share my passion for antique maps and hopefully meet some other that have an appreciation for history and cartography. The crypto-world and blockchain technology is an exciting new frontier and I would be crazy to know about it and not take the steps to be a part of it from the early stages.
