Introducing myself to Steemit!

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago

Hi everyone!

My name is Matías Menarguez, I'm a professional drummer (mostly a Jazz drummer) from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

As I'm not the most organized person, I entered the #openmic for week 63 before introducing myself here, but well, here I am!

mat1.jpg

I've been playing and studying for more than 17 years now, and thanks to music and projects I've participated in, I've been lucky enough to travel to different countries and do what I love the most, which is playing drums.
Here's a short clip of me "vandalizing" NYC while I was on tour with "The SoHo Rentals".

Being a musician has never been easy, and today, given the amount of information and inmediate access we (almost) all have is, in my opinion, simplifying the art so we can produce more, faster.

That is why I would like to invite you all to go back to basics, go back to that time when we would sit down and listen to an entire record without interruptions or multitasking, no cell phone/facebook/whatsapp in the middle, and just try to get inside of what you are listening.

I've been doing this for some years now, with vinyls from Coltrane, Miles, Bowie, Shorter, and believe me, TODAY, that becomes a privilege!! Being able to pay full attention to what we want to do, is a privilege.

After working on theater plays for some years now I still can not believe that people have to check their phones in the middle of the play. Let's make a change!

mat2.jpg

I will be creating posts with music I would recommend everyone to listen to, some of my own projects, some of people I admire.

If you happen to be a drummer, and want to get any kind of info/execercises, want to start playing Jazz, or whatever you need, let me know in the comments and I'll gladly create a video for you.

Looking forward to reading your thoughts on this, if any, and please feel free to follow me on https://steemit.com/@matiasmenarguez

I say goodbye with a song I composed for my Jazz Quartet "Perceptual", played live some time ago.
I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for making the intro. Really good. And I really enjoyed your song.

Great start to my day.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Translation to english of the song's name would be "Dear parents", it's a song I dedicated to my father and mother. Thank you for stopping by!

Nice Mati!
:)

Gracias luchito!

just found out you introduced @matiasmenarguez had to upgrade your 5% upvote to 100%.

Well done @luisferchav

Hello @dj123!! Thanks!! I'm really glad you guys are appreciating @matiasmenarguez, he's pretty much the best drummer I know personally and it doesn't hurt that he's a really cool dude too, as you can see from the New York video, he can make almost anything sound cool in very creative ways, and I thought he could bring something really nice to steemit! :)

@luisferchav is the man! He took the time to explain to me how Steemit works, and that was a hard work! He’s an incredible musician, wait and see what he does with loops and vocals!

Jazz for the win! Welcome to Steemit @matiasmenarguez :)

Yeeeahh! Great to see you here @kevinwong!

Hahah thank you Kevin!!

Welcome!

Thank you!

Awesome @matiasmenarguez glad to meet a fellow musician! I enjoy all forms of music, and definitely think it's important for people to listen to entire albums, as opposed to only singles, which is how so many consume music today in the streaming age. I play guitar myself, produce my own music and art, and look forward to suggestions from you! I'll check out your music as well. Cheers and welcome to steemit

Hey!! Thank you for stopping by. I totally agree with you, I believe we are all victims of the times we live in. You have to be the first, or get there first, otherwise you are outdated, so it's kind of undestandable that most kids nowadays find it difficult to dedicate 40 minutes to an album when they can stream 20 videos at the same time in the same computer. But well, even tho we have to adapt to the way things are now, I always try not to lose what I consider really important, and that is the time that music or art has to occupy in mi life as a listener, daily.
Take care! Looking forward to hearing some of your music!

Couldn't agree more! I have begun uploading some music videos I have created through d tube, trying to get more of my content on these decentralized platforms!!! I have a bandcamp with lot of my music for free download, if you or anyone wants some free tunes! My debut album is there, and it is also available to stream over spotify, itunes or google play. Anyways, here is a link for the bandcamp if you are so inclined to check it out :) who knows, maybe we could collaborate one day!!!!

https://falseyedols.bandcamp.com/

Will check it out later today! Hit me up and we can do something together. I work a lot recording drums at home for musicians all around the world, and I love it!

Man, I'm listening to Augmented worlds now, loving it!!! You can check http://perceptual.bandcamp.com , we have a couple of songs there, still haven't had the time to get into the studio to record a full album.

Thank you so much for checking it out! I started listening to your band's page as well, and it is definitely something right up my alley! I am going to download it for sure :)

Matías, welcome to steemit! I hope you will find fun and interesting and useful times here. Success!

Thank you very much! I hope I can contribute too! Take care!

Welcooooooooooome!

Thaaaaaaaaaank you!!

My pleasuuuuuuuuuuure! :)

Damn... So much this!

Last night I did that very thing... Lit candles, turned up the music, turned down the phones, and even blindfolded myself so I couldn't get distracted...

And then I danced.

Those powerful moments when nothing else comes between us and our existence are so few and far between now.

Moments when we get to actually feeeel the tension of the day kinking up our shoulders and we don't just reach for the Advil, but actually MOVE our neck and shoulders to unleash that tension...

Moments when we feeeel the avoidance in our body as our partner moves around us... or maybe it's the ache to feel them reach for us... or maybe it's the sizzle and snap of passion and pleasure undulating as we get lost in beats, rhythms, and rifts of music and motion...

Fuck.

That.

Thank you for your work and invitation to the rest of us to share in that moment with you! I'll be following and dancing along for sure!

Ohh yes!!! That is it!!, I also find it a way to connect with ourselves, thing that gets harder everyday. It’s our very own private moment (of the day maybe?).

You nailed it, I’m really glad some of us are still willing to enjoy art in such a deep and personal way.

Take care and thank you for stopping by!!

For sure, I'll be stopping by more!

Hello, Matias, and Welcome to Steemit.

Thanks for the great intro. The moment I read "jazz guitarist," I realized it would be interesting. Then I clicked on the first video, and was very impressed by the way you made or found music / rhythm everywhere in NYC.

And reading the names of those great musicians in your vinyl collection made me want to hear your second vid. Excellent. Great composition and an awesome performance.

Below are a few basic points of advice re posting on Steemit.

  1. Longer posts are more lucrative than short posts. If you make a post of with several videos, it's more likely to earn rewards.
  2. Include some text, photos, and images, to complement the vids.
  3. Make sure the text and photos are formatted properly, so that your post looks attractive and appealing.

Hope to hear more from you soon.

Hope this helps for now. Good luck, and Full Steem Ahead!

Hi again! First of all thank you for your kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the videos! And thank you very much for your feedback, it really helps and I truly appreciate it. Will have everything you said in mind for my next post. Take care!

Grande Juli!!

Great introduction. Welcome to Steemit!

Thank you very much Allesia! See you around!

Nice intro I must say, glad to make your acquaintance. I could feel your passion from your words. Looking forward to more post from you. About people checking their phones in the middle of a play... Being there, done that but it doesn't mean we don't enjoy what's going on on stage, it's just... Part of our habit now I guess.... 😉.

Hey there! Thank you for stopping by! Yeah, I understand, we are all in the same page with technology and the "need" to be available for every single thing that happens. But hey, I think it's just of matter of respect, not only to the performer, but to your time too! Take care!!
