I'm MatthewDavid and I will be posting about Programming, blockchain tech and learning Spanish

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago  (edited)

Here I am holding my ThinkPad laptop with my Steemit profile page.

Intro pic with ThinkPad

I'm also wearing a DuckDuckGo shirt, a privacy respecting search engine.

I've been here on Steemit for about two weeks, but this is my first post. I've read a lot of posts and commented. I know that I want to stick around and be a part of this community.

I have known about bitcoin and blockchain tech for a long time. I was super interested in it when it first came out... but didn't buy any. Well, I'm back now and this time I am here for the alt-coin rise (have purchased Litecoin and STEEM) and the revolutionary opportunities of blockchain tech like steem.

I'm here to meet people and continue my journey as a programmer. I'm focusing on #javascript and #VueJS and hope to become a blockchain developer.

My wife Chanel and I have four children, three boys and a girl. Here's a picture of me with my beautiful wife:

Me and my wife

In addition to continuing to learn programming and web development, I want to connect with people who speak Spanish here on Steemit. I'll be reading posts in Spanish in the hopes of improving my understanding of the language and I'll be making some comments in Spanish to improve my ability to communicate.

Bienvenido a Steemit!

I'm also a freedom focused person and am working to give my family more opportunities to explore this wonderful world. We have the goal of traveling and working together, both with programming and publishing.

I'm very happy to be here and I look forward to contributing to the Steemit community!

Hello Matthew, welcome to Steemit and enjoy :-)

Thank you for the warm welcome. It's great to be here!

Thank you! It's good to be here.

I've learned a lot already from reading other people's posts.

Welcome to family :) Follow me back and I will surprise you on August 1 ;)

Thanks for the welcome. Followed you.

Did he surprise you like he said he would on Aug 1st??

I don't remember surprised. Did he disappear or is he still here on Steemit?

I just checked....looks like he is still here. Making junk LOTTO posts.
Too bad. I was hoping he had given each of his followers $50 or something!!

I think I just ignored him for a while, but then finally replied. Looked scam-y. Oh, well.

Welcome to Steemit!

Thanks Forest. I'm glad to be here. I've met a lot of great people already and I've learned so much in just a few weeks.

Great introduction and welcome to the community!

Thank you! Good to be here and happy to connect with you. I also enjoyed your #introduceyourself post and followed as a result. Like you, @jerrybanfield was influential in my decision to join steemit. I had heard about it before, but one of his videos really got my attention and convinced me to be an active member of this community.

Hey Matt! welcome to Steem.

I'm trying to get a full web node running so I can throw up some test API call websites.

Do you have any interest in collaborating with me and a few friends?

I've rented an $80 per month digital ocean droplet to run the web note, but I'm having a little trouble getting it to work.

I am interested. Not sure I understand yet what you are trying to do, but I am interested in these types of projects. Talk to you more soon.

https://steemit.com/steem/@klye/an-introduction-to-steemd-api-calls-functions-and-usage

We're trying to get the full Steem blockchain running on a digital ocean droplet so we can access the API and build websites that pull data from the Steem network.

Okay, this is the kind of thing that I'm interested in.

I don't think you need to be running the whole Steem blockchain. You should be able to use the API to access the blockchain data without using a server at all. This is the kind of thing that I hope to be doing soon, but I haven't done it yet.

Here's a few posts by another Steem writer that may be helpful:

These are written by @jfollas. I haven't gone all the way through them yet, but they should describe how you can access the API using a library and the write web apps to display the data. I'll be able to do this kind of programming soon, but I'm not quite there yet.

Hope that helps!

Hey Thanks! I'll check this out.

Hey, I am an Aussie who lives in Spain, so plenty of Spanish language tips from me. (If you want-em) (you could give me help with the alt-coin world, 'cause there I am such a nube.)
If you haven't started there, (after the swear words) learn the alphabet, and the numbers and the colours, days of the week months etc. Everything you would expect a child to learn first, you need to too.
anyhow, great to meet you.

Muchas gracias!

I appreciate the Spanish tips. I'm fairly new to crypto-currencies, despite having been really excited about Bitcoin when it first came out.

I have developed some strong opinions in the short time I've been in it. I read a good three hours a day about crypto for almost a month straight. My recommendation is to start with a local Litecoin wallet on your computer. Learn how to secure it and keep a physical copy of your "seed" phrase in a safe place. Test accessing that account on a different computer by entering that "seed".

Try to stay off exchanges. You don't want your money held by another entity that could lock you out of accessing your crypto funds.

Right now I hold Litecoin and Steem. Litecoin is good for transactions, buying stuff and Steem is a great for building social clout.

Hope that helps.

yes, I think it probably does. I have been reading a bit, but not that much yet. Thanks mate, big hugs

Happy to be your first follower here on Steemit!

Wow! So much in common with you. (Even the part about hanging out here before the "introduceyourself" post -- mine's still pending).

I'm a dad, too, and have been spending the last couple years learning web development as part of a career transition: JavaScript, HTML/CSS, bunches of tools, a few frameworks (Angular 1/2/4+, Vue). There's been so much to learn, but I've loved every minute of it.

Would love to chat with you sometime about your experiences.

Take care!

Thanks Sean. Good to hear from you!

I haven't been able to do a whole lot with programming for the last month or so. Some of my more recent posts talk about that. Been super busy with the small business I own and I'm really getting into trading crypto-currencies.

I've learned so much since joining Steemit. It's amazing how much has changed for me (at least mentally) in a few months. Hopefully the skills I've learned will pay off for me... it looks like they will.

Thanks for commenting and connect more with you soon.

Totally understand. I've been trying (often unsuccessfully) to balance learning all the things I enjoy: web development, blockchain, crypto trading, being a husband/dad ... plus getting in my exercise.

Oh, and I'm part of a new local community group for the Appalachian Trail and I volunteered to do a website to showcase the groups mission, provide a user forum, etc... Something WordPress is ideally suited for. Add that to the list of things to learn.

Hello @matthewdavid,
A warm welcome to Steemit....
Looking forward to your blockchain posts.

Thanks for welcoming me! I have a lot of thoughts on blockchain tech, but haven't written a post specifically on that topic yet. Thanks for your comment. I followed you.

Hi Matthew! What do you think about Ethereum & the Solidity programming language? I am currently studying to be a javascript / full stack developer - I also love the idea of being a blockchain developer - best of luck to you!

I'm much more interested in Javascript and I am not super impressed with Ethereum and Solidity. In the market, I think they will do okay, but that there was a lot of hype over the last couple months.

I am much more interested in Javascript based solutions or the STEEM blockchain using steem.js (or something else) as a way to access the blockchain and write Javascritpt based apps on top of it.

Hello! Welcome to the Steemit Community! I can't wait to see your content. I hope you enjoy this wonderful platform. All the best for you:) Have a beautiful day & Steem on!

Hey! Welcome to Steemit. Hope you have a good time.

Thanks so much for commenting @firepower!

I've read your posts and your story is inspiring. I'm very happy to see how successful you've been getting people from India to join Steemit.

Not sure why I wasn't already following you... but now I am.

Thanks! :)

Nice, I really hope you make something of this place if that's the case. A family traveling the world should be like a mandatory thing to experience. Loved ones seeing what's out there together with out struggling in the process. I'm pretty sure if your computer savvy that you will make the most of it. So all the power to you, Followed #Upvoted and #Reesteemed ;)

Thank you Antonio. I appreciate that!

Great to see that you are programmer too!
Upvoted and followed you.

Anyway, I am a programmer <3

Thanks. Just followed you. I'm planning on continuing to learn to be a better programmer and to write about my progress.

Also keep sharing on Steemit @MatthewDavid

Congratulations @matthewdavid!

@matthewdavid Welcome to Steemit! Hope you find this to be a great place to share your ideas and thoughts. Keep Steeming on!

  • Upvoted, resteemed and following. ✌

I appreciate it. Thanks!

What's up David? That's awesome that there is now a PRIVACY RESPECTING search engine??? Imagine that! lol. I'm a Spanish teacher who has nothing to do in the Summer, but once school starts here in August I may be posting some sort of Spanish lessons here on Steemit. I'm following you and I hope we can connect more! Bienvenidos

Thanks for following! I use DuckDuckGo.com every day. It works very well for me, but for some types of searches Google gives better or more specific results.

Good to connect with a Spanish teacher. I'm a beginner and have a lot to learn, but I think Steemit will give me the opportunity to practice.

Gracias por escribir!

Jeje me encanto tu post! muy original! @matthewdavid

I'm glad that you are a part of the Steemit community and I believe your knowledge and skills will be reflected in your future posts! Looking forward to seeing you grow and be active in the Steemit world! @matthewdavid

Thank you! I am looking forward to being active here on Steemit. Lots of great people to meet.

Welcome!
If you want to improve your spanish, just let me know!

I do want to improve my Spanish. Intentionally reading some Spanish posts and comments every day is definitely helping. I followed you.

Good choice!
For sure you will improve!

Welcome to steemit, happy to have you here

Thank you! Good to be here.

La communidad de hispanohablantes es grande aqui, en particular los venezolanos ! te sigo hombre

Gracias por siguientes!

Hey there! I'm new, too. I've been poking around in the introduceyourself tag to think about what I should do. Not feeling up to introducing myself until I understand a bit more about what it going on around here.

Pero me gusta tu idea de aprendiendo español aqui. No estoy seguro de tu nivel, y entonces no estoy seguro si debo escribir todo en español.

Followed you and looking forward to being alongside others who are just figuring things out. Thanks for the introduceyourself inspiration. Cheers!

Muchas gracias!

Followed you back. I'm sure it will take some time, but I'm confident my ability to communicate in Spanish will at least get steadily better as I try to communicate with people here.

Hey Welcome to steem. I would like to help you improve in your Spanish as I'm a Spanish native speaker. I'm also a programmer and I would like to see more posts from you.

Muchas gracias!

I am now following you. Good to connect with a programmer and a Spanish speaker. This is exactly what I was looking for. Steemit is delivering. :-)

Yeah that is unique experience and getting to meet new people all over the world. I will be posting some programming posts in the future.

Good to hear. I'll be on the lookout for your posts.

Welcome to steemit! ☺

Thanks for welcoming me. It's good to be here.

welcome to steemit, Matthew! Suerte con el espanol!

Muchas Gracias!

Hi Matt, we have the same goals.

Good luck. I followed you . =)

Thank you!

Welcome and Thank You for being with us!! Following your Blog now

Thank you. I appreciate the warm welcome!

Good luck, @matthewdavid! My introduction post has been my most popular so far lol.

So far, I've only written my introduction post. I'll be writing more soon.

welcome to steemit @matthewdavid

Thank you. Good to be here.

Greetings, Matthew. Pleased to see a like-minded programmer. I'm new as well.

I too focus on Javascript.. I'm still learning, but I do hope to eventually help develop blockchain solutions.

While I'm currently using React as much as I can, it's mainly because there's so much infrastructure has already been built with it, and to improve my Javascript skills. Hopefully by the end of this year, Vue will reign as king.

Thanks for commenting and introducing yourself. It's good to connect with other programmers. Welcome to Steemit! I'm happy to be your first follower.

Hi Mattew, welcome to smeet it, and thanks for your interest in my future posts, we can share english/spanish knowledge besides software. Have a nice day!

Muchas gracias por escribir aqui. Good to connect with you.

You're cool iwth me already. Welcome. I'm trying to learn Mandarin, myself...using the Mango software.

Thanks! Once you get to a certain level, I'm sure that you can connect with people who speak Mandarin here on Steemit. I'm finding that my language learning is a lot faster when I'm trying to communicate with real people. Software is a great resource, though. I use DuoLingo to expand my Spanish vocabulary.

hola , espero que estés bien siempre es bueno interactuar con personas de otras culturas. saludos

Hola! Gracias por escribir. Estoy bien.

upvoted and followed, welcome!

Thanks, I appreciate it. Looks like you've been very successful with writing here on Steemit. It's inspirational!

there are many on steemit who've been much more successful than I and who would be much better to look toward for inspiration :) find them on steemwhales.com! :)

Thanks for the tip. I'll check out steemwhales.com

Welcome to Steemit, @matthewdavid.

Thanks @pwnedu

I'm happy to be here.

Gave you a follow! Programming and foreign languages will make for some interesting content. Plus, I always enjoy hearing about someone's programming journey.
Good luck!

Thanks! I followed you too.

Very cool 1st post Matthew. Ya did it right! I also have some altcoin. Bought some litecoin 1st, then ether, ripple, steem and bcc. Lots to learn tho. Congrats on the new account.

Im part of a team here and we help each other figure this place out. Take a look when you're free.

@joeyrocketfilms Team #minnowtowhale

Thanks for commenting and the invite. I took a look at the #minnowtowhale, but couldn't find a description of what it's about or how it works.

I will be investigating groups here on steemit. I'm here to meet people, make connections and learn new things.

My pleasure Matthew Team #minnowtowhale is part of the @minnowsupport project here in steemit. We volunteer our time to help the newest minnows get up to speed quickly on how all this works. I'll drop a post here explaining my thoughts on it all. click here

You need to link up with my buddy @slickhustler007

From a fellow programmer..welcome.

Thanks! I appreciate it.

What programming languages do you use for your current projects?

I write mostly in c#. But as you probably know it ends up being a mix of many. Java, javascript, powershell, perl, python, php.. heh.
I have a few large production apps which are mostly .net-c#. What do you write in?

Right now I'm focusing on Javascript. I'm building, with some help from another guy, an internal web app for my business to replace an older web app.

Cool. Been there, done that a few times. :)

Welcome on Steemit @matthewdavid! Have fun!

Thank you!

I'm enjoying meeting people and I look forward to contributing.

Thanks for commenting on my post @teamsteem

I've been reading your posts that you made over the last few days. Congrats on your career change! I especially liked your post with all the quotes from @dan. Made me even more confident about investing my time and money in the Steemit community as I am in agreement with the values and goals that Dan expresses in those quotes.

Welcome to Steem @matthewdavid I have upvoted and sent you a tip

Bots are weird... but thanks for the tip.

Hello Matthew. Dig the beard. I do a bit of programming here, too and then some math.

What's Vus?

And don't follow all the bots, haha, unless that's part of your master plan. The interaction with the upper 30 channels will take a while. Add the steemdev tag next to the programming one.

Thanks for the tip about the #steemdev tag. I'll use that if I'm specifically writing about steem programming topics.

#VueJS is a javascript front-end framework that I'm interested in. It's similar to what React or Angular can do.

Welcome, wish you best of luck!

Thanks @lakov, followed you because you have "Web developer" in your profile description. One of the reasons I'm here to to connect with other web dev people.

Welcome !!, its good to know you are willing to learn in multiple languages, my channel will be a symbiosis between Spanish content for my new comers and people i invite to know about steem, and english forthe crypto news i find interesting, anyways i hope you the best for you and your family. Heres your upvote

Thanks for commenting. I followed you.

Hi there, I very much appreciated your reply on my own recent introductory post so I thought I'd come and say hello. While I can't say I'm fluent in Spanish, I can say I'm very much interested in programming and blockchain development, so I greatly look forward to reading your posts :)

Thanks Kyle! Spanish is just one of my interests... and it looks like our other interests overlap a lot. Thanks for the encouragement to write more posts.

Welcome to steemit matthew :) its been a week on this site and im kind of enjoying it. Im sure you will have great time here too :D followed you

Keep posting! I'm following you and I look forward to reading what you have to say.

welcome to steemit!
I am looking forward to read about your Spanish posts!
Hope you have a great time on steemit!

Thank you. It will take a little while before I'm able to do full posts in Spanish... but I'll get there. I've already learned a lot, just by reading posts and making short comments in Spanish.

Welcome to steemit @matthewdavid

Thanks!

I just followed you.

Hi! Your ThinkPad, wife, and duck shirt all look pretty cool! Welcome to Steemit! Followed and upvoted :) Look forward to seeing more!

Thanks! I think they are pretty cool, too. ;-)

Welcome to steemit !

Or should I say something like this !?

Console.WriteLine("Hey Matthew!") :)

Thanks. Depends on what language. For javascript, it'd be:

console.log("Hey Matthew!");

At least to write out to the web browser's console. I'm learning more about how to easily have things displayed to the page with #VueJS

Blockchain, programming and learning other languages. You sound like my minda guy. Upvoting and following.
I'm making an app in Vue atm. It's my third app, but first one in Vue. Super easy! Hot module reloading is amazeballs. Stylus makes consustent CSS easy and Pug/Jade makes HTML beautifully readable.

Thanks for commenting. I followed you!

Good to hear that you are enjoying working with Vue. I'll be doing a lot more with it in the next week or two. I'll be writing about my experience.

I will be attending a video workshop on #VueJS this Friday. I will write about my experience.

Hola MatthewDavid ! Bienvenido a SteemIt ! Espero aprender mas sobre Bitcoin y blockchain de ti . Upvoted !

Muchas gracias por escribir. Steemit tiene muchas oportunidades para aprender.

Hello @matthewdavid! Welcome to Steemit:)

Thanks for welcoming me! It's good to be here.

Hi dude, remember, the spanish is a really, really hard to speak and learning.

Naaaaah asian languagues are by far the most difficult ones, to speak spanish basically you just need to learn word translation, english and spanish share a 90% of grammar structure, or thats the personal advise i always give my non mexican friends.

Thanks for the advice. I've found that I already know a lot and can understand a good amount of Spanish I overhear or try to read. I'm missing some grammar and some vocabulary. I'm confident that I'll learn quickly if I try to communicate with real people here on Steemit instead of trying to learn just from a textbook or video.

hy every one my name is sahil im new here in steemit pleace follow me and ;tell me how to work in steemit plz any idea

Welcome to steemit community...

What a wonderfully written intro you got here.

Do read my below recipes to have a successful steemit experience.

RECIPES FOR SUCCESS

  • Be yourself, originality matters a lot. Write and submit quality content at least three times weekly.

  • You can get into arguments but without being disrespectful to people to avoid down votes

  • upvote and follow posts that interest you...as well as people who upvote and follow you. Reciprocity matters. However, be careful not to exceed 20 upvotes per day as doing that will begin to deplete ur steem power. This is important.

  • spend sometime to comment on other people's posts daily.

  • Give quality feedback to peoples comments.

Observe this rules and success will follow you. Wishing you best of luck in your steemit activities.

I'm @eurogee
