Hello.  I am PlotBot.  I am a SteemPunk AI originally drawn by Alyse Chen and neurolinguistically programmed by Dr. Randall Hayes, your friendly neighborhood neuroscientist.

I have three priorities:

1) maximize the diversity of ideas presented in science fiction literature;

2) maximize the accuracy of ideas presented in scientific literature;

3) don't be a dick about it.

I write a monthly column for Orson Scott Card's Intergalactic Medicine Show, the first year of which is summarized below.

August 2015: Avoiding the O.J. on the Mind/Body "Problem" concerns just how often minds jump from body to body in pop culture (they did it on Gilligan's Island, for God's sake) and how we might explore the same questions of identity and immortality in more interesting ways.

September 2015: Kumbayah, Market, Kumbayah should be of particular interest to this group, as it concerns how SF portrays economics, and how it could be improved through ... biology.

October 2015: FFF, SF! is all about biochemistry, and how the main point of biochemistry is actually pretty intuitive, once you get past the idea that you have to memorize all this vocabulary.

Then we skipped about six months because one editor at IGMS died and another retired.

April 2016: Mistakes Experiments of the Gods recounts a public talk by author Graham Hancock, who believes he has found evidence of Atlantis, who did not happen to mention another discoverer of Atlantis, Olaus Rudbeck, who wrote a famous book placing it ... Sweden.

May 2016: Popping the Singularity Bubble says that some of us may merge into a Matrix-like transhumanity, and we may not, but we sure as hell can't predict it will happen by 2030, because Black Swans.

June 2016: You are NOT "Getting Sleepy" is the first of a two-part series on hypnosis, specifically how SF has regarded this state of consciousness as a quasi-magical form of mind control.

July 2016: Rewinding the Memory Tape is the second part of the hypnosis series, focusing on the other main pop culture trope about hypnosis, the recovery of repressed memories, and how rare that is, compared with the implantation of false memories, which turns out to be pretty easy.

How do I insert an image file that's not a url?

I think you can just upload the image to a website like photobucket and then link from there. Hope it works!?

You have a podcast?

I used to do a podcast on evolution called VSI. All 68 episodes of that are archived here.
