The Legend of Scottie Mac

A gentle gust of wind swept across my face as I gazed out upon the mountainous landscape that I called home. With my bare feet woven into lush green grass, I stood, optimistically baffled. “How could I be so blessed?”
At the time, I was 8, so I didn’t know much else.

My grandpa used to call me The Happy Baby, and although I struggled with an explosive temper and self-terminating tendencies as a toddler and young child, my teenage years shaped me into a delightfully interesting young man. By all means, I wasn’t perfect- I was kind of a spaz; quirky and energetic; a diehard romantic, who lacked the chemistry to spark magic. I didn’t have it all together. Nonetheless, I was enthusiastic! …And adventurous.

The massive boulders perched on the hillside outside my bedroom window certainly encouraged this insatiable curiosity; I wanted to roam. And although it took a couple years for me to pry the chord from the wall, and unplug myself from my television, when I did, it was breathtaking. Yes, quite literally, breathtaking!

From throwing myself down psychedelic slopes, and rapidly shuffling through the forest, into the setting sun, to snowboarding down Pikes Peak in the full moon’s light, on a trail that doesn’t exist- my teenage years were filled with adventures.

As I continue to write, and contribute to #Steemit, I’ll be sharing more and more of these stories!

After my snowboarding excursion down that wicked slope, I started to ask, “What’s next?”

The next full moon, I rode my bike up a mountainside in a blizzard, and slept in a cave. I encountered bike thieves, and even dipped my own hand into some mischief (I’ll tell this story later too).

Ecstatic about this endeavor, I instinctively asked,” What’s next?”

A couple full moons later, I was riding a cheap, child sized mountain bike up Barr Trail, summiting Pikes Peak before sunset. Then I soared down from heaven, along an asphalt river, back into civilization.

With an ear to ear grin, of course, I started wondering, “What’s next?”

Once again, the pull of the moon drove me into the woods for another adventure, this time, riding around Pikes Peak.

Upon my arrival home from there, I threw my hands up in the air and said, “Well heck!? What’s next!!!?”

My curiosity was ravenous at this point. How far could I go?

If I could strap all my camping supplies to my mountain bike, and refuel from town to town, then was there a limit to how far I could go?

Idealistically…no.
Financially, yes.

So I spent the next year saving up and gathering supplies- for I had a dream to ride my bike… to Canada! Actually, I wanted to ride my bike from Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Banff National Park, in Alberta, Canada. Then I planned to head west towards the Pacific Coast, and follow the 101 down to California. From there, I planned on staying with my family and putting in the effort to work hard enough to afford a recumbent bicycle (a three wheeled bike that’s low to the ground). Once I acquired that, and stretched a tarp over the top, I planned on shooting through the dessert back home.

I ended up only riding my bike to Canada – which is still a feat, to say the least.

After that, I made a commitment to do at least one bike tour a year.

A couple winters ago, I rode my mountain bike from Colorado Springs, Colorado, over the Continental Divide, to Moab, Utah. The next year I my bike for a week in the woods during autumn, travelling from Denver, Colorado, to Golden, to Boulder, to Nederland, to Estes Park, to Winter Park then back home.

As you get to know me more on Steemit, I’ll be sharing more and more of these stories with you! I’ll also be plugging you into various community service projects that I have created and am actively working on.

I have a project called #TrashHikes, which gets local community members together to pick up litter. So far we’ve picked up 35 bags of trash on Lookout Mountain in Golden, as well as Idaho Springs. I’ll be posting more about this project in a future article, in hopes that we can locate all the “litter mines” in Colorado, and clean them up.

#GardenParties is an organization that cultivates crops and community by turning backyards into gardens, and strangers into friends. My website http://www.GardenParties.org functions as its home base, and creates a resource for communities to fill each other’s needs. If you have land to grow food on, but no time to do it- fill out a form, and we’ll throw you a garden party. If you want to meet like minded individuals and actually do something to improve the world, you can search our schedule for garden parties, and join our list of activists. If you would like to connect the dots and coordinate garden parties, you can become a "Garden Ambassador".

This project will need a lot more work to get it to where I want it to be, and in future articles, I will let you know how you can help.

I also have an essential oil distribution company called, “Catalyst Oils”. Through this platform, I sell Young Living Essential Oils, and teach people how to use essential oils to help program the subconscious mind and set up triggers for good habits- as well as other things. At the moment, http://CatalystOils.com has a full Essential Oils 101 Guide, filled with links and videos, if you’re interested in learning more about plantmedicine. Once again, I will be working to write more and more articles, and go in depth about this topic.

I’m also working on a project called Shwiggiddy Arts, which aims to empower artists by creating unique canvases and merchandising opportunities. This is on my back burner- and I probably won’t start working on it again until I finish my book.

Actually, I have two. My first book, “When the Wind Speaks” is a photographic odyssey through the poems, quotes, and philosophies I’ve conjured up on my adventures. It’s basically an inspirational picture book, and is still in the editing phase of its creation.

“A Righteous Endeavor” is my baby! And what I’m really proud of. Although I’m just 5 chapters into writing it, this book explores a handful of full moon adventures, and takes the reader on a journey with me, all the way from Colorado to Canada, by mountain bike.

I’ll be releasing select chapters of these books on Steemit… but will save a lot of the good, hearty meat of the adventure, for an official, full print, release.

All that aside, I am also a #Pedicab driver in Downtown Denver. My brother bought the bike taxi two years ago, and told me that if I continuously upgrade it, he’d give me cheap rent. Complete with two drums, two bells, and a stereo system, the vehicle is now more of an instrument than anything. Its even is wrapped in hemp, established with a Colorado Flag, and decked with wood floors. I even crafted psychedelic hubcaps for the machine!

Recently, however, a lower back injury has pushed me out of the saddle, and onto the floor. Scrambling to figure out how to make ends meet while I heal, I remembered my friend Kenny, @Kennyskitchen, talking about something called Steemit. I sprawled out on my yoga futon, and listened to a couple Youtube videos about it, then decided it was worth a shot. -If I could monetize my creative content, then why not?

I’m just finally gaining the strength and composure to sit up-right and type. And as I do, and watch words travel from the synapses in my mind, through my fingertips, and turn into text, I’m excited about what the future holds for us.

We are about to embark on a Righteous Endeavor together!

So stay tuned! I’m about to release a lot of entertaining, informative, and interesting articles in the next few days. Are you ready?

Welcome to Steemit brother! So happy for you to join us :-)

Hey Kenny, thanks for sharing Steemit with me and our community! I think it's brilliant idea! I would love to learn more about this platform from you. Do you have any tips for boosting the reach of a post?

Quite a few haha!

The super quick version:

  • make sure you un-check the auto-vote when submitting a post. Then up-vote it 15 minutes later.
  • share your steemit posts on any other social media you have. I joined multiple Steemit Facebook groups.
  • go to the steemit.chat and share your link in the appropriate channels.
  • Be persistent, and focus on the quality of your content. Lots of A/V is good

In this post, at about the halfway mark, I give a breakdown, plus links to a bunch of different guides.

I'd definitely recommend all the folks you know who have joined like @burntmd, @johnnyhurley, @hhcwebmaster and some folks who consistently create good content. Follow people who's stuff you like to read, and when you notice someone's posts tend to go really big (whale bait), you generally want to upvote it in the 15-30 minute window. If you look at my "followed" you can find a bunch of awesome activists, healers, musicians, etc, many of whom you're only 1 person removed from already :-)

Welcome! Thank you for introducing another new idea to Steemit! Looking forward to seeing more of your content around here. Would you mind uploading a verification pic?

Yeah, welcome. I look forward to reading more about these initiatives and whatnot!

If you're into the Facebook shuffle, I have a page for Trash Hikes (called Trash Hikes) and Garden Parties (called Denver Garden Parties) that showcases what we have done as a community so far! It's exciting to get people together, to do meaningful things! And it's even more riveting to see these projects grow and expand!

I look forward to revealing all the fun add-ons associated with these ideas!

What a beautiful place you live in! I look forward to reading your books.

It truely is a blessing to live in Colorado! But as I've been traveling, I've come to realize that we are immersed in an immense, wide-stretching landscape, riddled with geological, and ecological brilliance! There's something beautiful to be seen, nearly anywhere you look! You just have to have the right eyes for it!

I just posted the first chapter to my book, "A Righteous Endeavor" on #Steemit.

Just look up "Moonlit tree runs down Pikes Peak" , or search @scottiemac for all of my articles!

I look forward to sharing my adventures with you!
