Hi Steemit! Hedge fund manager exploring the crypto world

Hi Steemit (Steemites?),

Delighted to be here, I've read several articles on the Steemit site and decided to have a closer look as I delve deeper into the world of Blockchain.

I've always been interested in how people absorb information and interact with one another, so I find the structure of Steemit fascinating from a behavioural economics perspective.

I was lucky enough to be one of the younger hedge fund managers in the City at 23 and wandered along making some rich people (and pensioners!) richer by investing their money in high quality companies (well, video game companies at the start..). 

Having all the resources I could want to try to understand any area was nice, but it was only after I took a break in 2010 for personal reasons that I was able to a bit more of the whole picture.

I think we are at an incredibly interesting point in the World, where there is lots of opportunity and also peril (!) As such I decided to come back to the industry with a great team to get a platform to do my bit to help with a few ideas.

I discuss two of them from 22 minutes in this Bloomberg podcast (the first 22 minutes are a duller plan for a new mechanism to rebalance the global oil market to stop energy shocks).

The first of the ideas, Ananas, is a plan for helping combat growing extremism integrated with a new model for the token economy. As such, just like the cool kids, our charitable foundation is doing an ICO :)

I've been thinking about this since predicting the fall of west Iraq to ISIS in 2013 and have been mulling it over for a few years before figuring out the right way to incentivise the community there.

The second plan is a few weeks away, but we will hopefully be pulling together a plan to give every refugee a biometric smartphone by 2020 through a new, smart-contract centered financing mechanism.

There are a few other things in the works, but I hope that I can share some interesting ideas here and to the broader crypto community.

Ideas are a dime a dozen, but good communities can definately make the most of them!
