Howdy Steemit Community! First post! Introduced by @jerrybanfield

in introduceyourself •  7 years ago

Heydley Hodley Steemit.  To clarify, I don't know @jerrybanfield personally nor have a spoken with him, seen him in person or even know his age.  I have ready a ton of his posts and it was in perusing his content that I saw it was on this super cool Steemit platform.  A little research and the rest is history.

I joined Steemit a couple of months ago and for some reason have just now gotten around to making my #introduceyourself post.  In the past year I have learned - and am continuing to learn - a ton about Cryptocurrency and with a ferocious interest in the currency it is tough to do it all.  ie. Make my first Steemit post.

Personal Life and "Career":

By day I work as a mortgage consultant, a job I have held for the past 7 years.  By night (and in every moment I can steal by day) I am a cryptocurrency enthusiast and stock market follower.

To be honest, I have become less and less enthusiastic about my day job which is a bummer since, until about a year ago, I loved every second of it.

In the beginning, I was the type who was always first in the office and last to leave, always working the weekends and never declining a mobile phone call from a client at 10pm on a Friday.  Although I still do well at my job and hold the respect of my colleagues, it is no longer something that I leap out of bed for each morning.  Wah Wah, woe is me.  I know.

In all my spare time, I learn what I can about the stock market - an interest I have held for 13 years since the age of 17 - and, for the past 2 years I study crytpcurrencies.  This started with Ethereum due to the fact that, as a real estate professional the idea of using smart contracts appealed to me.  The more I learned, the more I fell in love and the more money I shifted to Ether and Bitcoin.  The investment in Ether and Bitcoin back when Ether was $4 and Bitcoin was $400 obviously turned out to be quite profitable as anyone who has seen a computer in the past year knows.

My beautiful wife, Anne, sells essential oils for various therapeutic uses.  I don't know much about that but she loves it and I love her.  So there!

Originally from VA I know live in Charleston, SC, a move that I have not regretted for one second.  The beach, salty aroma in the air, heat and humidity are things that I have embraced and come to depend on for peace of mind.

I believe in hard work, helping others and using fruits one has reaped in their life to give and sow seeds for those who have had less luck.  This is the only thing that life is (or at least should be) about and the more one does this, the more it comes back to him.  At least that's been my experience.

On twitter I go by cryptorichie and normally post or retweet information from the Crypto world as it went down throughout the day.  I don't have a ton of followers but am also somewhat new to Twitter.  The moral of this paragraph is "Follow Me on Twitter damn it!".

To Sum it all up:

I cannot wait to get more involved in the Steemit community.  As someone who is relatively new to putting content online, I am approaching it as a learning opportunity and would welcome any feedback, critiques, ideas, etc. as I put more time into this.

My goal here is to spread the word of both Steemit and the entire cryptocurrency universe and have fun doing it!

Hey and welcome! What are your dreams once you don't need to do your 9-5 anymore?

That, my friend, is a great question! My main dream is to spend a LOT more time with my wife and in doing so take her to see places neither of us have ever heard of, give what I can, learn. Mainly, I want to see where life can take us when we aren't beholden to the daily grind. Thanks for the reply!

Good to have you here! I had heard about Steemit, but it was @jerrybanfield's video "10 reasons why STEEM will go to $10 in 10 months" (or a similar title) that got me excited about Steemit.

Great intro post! Welcome. @jerrybanfield is a great Steemian to follow.

Welcome to Steemit @tdiv7653! :c)

First of all - thats a very nice bump-up in reputation you've had over this post. :cP Good on you! Its a lovely post.

You have a great set of values. Things are going your way and you have a great connection with your wife. Blessed you are.

I am a little concerned at your losing some of the interest you once had as a mortgage consultant. May I ask if there have been any changes in recent months? Maybe a new client or a shift in the kinds of clients? Maybe a change in the colleagues that you interact with? Maybe new procedures that have taken the wind out of your sails? Or perhaps an increased nagging questioning at the back of your head?

I do not know. But I do hope that you will find your equilibrium :c)

Since you're new here, a quick read through this post may prove helpful.

Hello @pathforger,

Thanks for the Kudos! My wife means a lot to me as does marriage itself. I am sure that when you make a promise to someone you ought to be ready to fulfill it.

As for the disenchantment with my current profession, I can say that it concerns me as well, especially when I consider how much it used to make me feel entirely complete (I know, weird that a job could make someone feel whole).

In being straight forward about it, as a sales person I like the opportunity to work my own way. 3 guys and myself started this particular mortgage branch endeavor for another bank about 4 years ago and ever since we have had to allow the corporate procedural, black and white way to take hold. With each passing week I feel more and more that it isn't about the service I provide but the numbers that I put up. When there were plenty who needed the service it was easy to reconcile but when the line becomes fine on providing for others and providing for only the bank, it gnaws on me little by little.

At the end of the day, I know I want to do more and honestly, this part has just come and gone and I have yet to go with it. With that said, it is just the old story of getting over the same ol' same ol' and getting the balls to move out of my 6 year comfort zone. That much I have done before and will do again!

By the way, thanks for the comment. You hit the nail on the head with the procedural differences/changes!

You are welcome @tdiv7653.

Nothing sucks the life out a job quicker than being given the sense that you are little more than a cog in a profit-making machine in the service of stakeholders who have little interest in fulfilling the purported purpose of the firm - beyond how that makes money for them.

I would recommend looking up Liz Ryan. She posts a 'lot' of great content on LinkedIn that is freely available. It might help guide you to your next step.

After all - perhaps you could consult for a firm that hasn't lost its soul - or you could conspire to identify all the current firm's weaknesses and launch your own service to sting them where it hurts.

Of course these are merely unsolicited suggestions from some person on the internet. :c) If your job is losing meaning for you then it makes sense to take steps now to at least give you the comfort on 'working on an out' - and if your job done right is your vocation - I'm pretty sure your firm cannot prevent you from exercising outside their sphere of influence.

Incidentally 'doing something about it' could also involve eyeing options for reduced hours (at this point I gather that you are an employee rather than a full fledged consultant (again Liz Ryan is a good source of info)) - or maybe simply launch a stealth job search. I sincerely wish you luck whichever way you go (after all - maybe there is a compelling reason to stick with this position (or an easier-going position in another section).

Lastly - kudos on your healthy marriage. Its great that you resolve this work issue before it starts spilling over into your personal life. :c)
