Hello world!

in introduceyourself •  6 years ago  (edited)

Salut! I’m Trang -- a mathematician by training and currently doing biomedical research at the University of Pennsylvania. My current aim on here is to become a STEAM-ian boss.

To start off, my latest projects include:

  • privateEC (Private evaporative cooling) where I incorporate the notion of differential privacy into machine learning methods to optimize their generalizability;
  • STIR (STatistical Inference of Relief-based methods) where I reconceptualize the Relief-based feature selection algorithms to create a new family of STIR that allows for statistical parametric tests;
  • Expanding TPOT (Tree-based Pipeline Optimization Tool) to be applicable for large datasets such as in genome-wide association studies.
  • DELFT (DEep Learning For TPOT) where I integrate recurrent neural networks in TPOT classifiers

So yeah. I will be stirring tea-test in my delft teapot until I realize it’s all evaporated.

Oh and I actually very recently submitted my very first preprint after being constantly nagged by @dhimmel about open science. This paper has nothing to do with what I have been working on, but oh well, what else can you do to please your advisor ¯\(ツ)/¯. While we’re on the topic of non-Newtonian physics, have an enjoyable read on the rheology of cats.

Okay so I was kidding about the STEAMian boss thing. To write more on science would be dope, but expect to see many posts about running, biking, hiking, wakeboarding, lindy hop, jazz, aikido, and even some guitar playing in the next months to come!

Cheers!

Hi @trang

Welcome to Steemit :)

Thanks for introducing yourself. I have some tips for you. First of all, please complete your profile. Go to "Settings" and fill all the fields that are shown in the image below, and then click "Update".

Secondly, I have two guides for you that will help you get started on Steemit:

The Ultimate Guide for Steemit Beginners

Steemit Wallet: Understanding Steem Power (SP), Steem Dollars (SBD) and Steem

Thirdly, there are several awesome communities that help the Steemians, especially the newcomers along the way. One of them is called @greetersguild, where you can get different type of support from the community, including an upvote support, and of course, learning from experienced Steemians. It is created by @terminallyill, and I would like to invite you to join us :) Here is the link to our discord server

Oh, and you can use #greetersguild as one of your tags to get a possible upvote from @greetersguild on your quality post.

Wish you great success on Steemit :)

A warm welcome to you mathematician, u remind of a mathematician joke from Reader's digest( https://www.rd.com) which I quote below

''A mathematician wanders back home at 3 a.m. and proceeds to get an earful from his wife.

“You’re late!” she yells. “You said you’d be home by 11:45!”

“Actually,” the mathematician replies coolly, “I said I’d be home by a quarter of 12.”

Thanks for the welcome! Keep the math jokes coming!

Nice! I was the first #steemian-boss and now you are the first STEAMian Boss. Sort of like Adam & Eve... let's go find some forbidden fruits.

I was unfamiliar with the STEAM acronym. It stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. So basically STEM but cooler because it includes the arts (e.g. the art of writing Steem posts).

Haha thanks steemian-boss! I'm glad I was able to show you a new acronym! And yes I had to include Art so I can talk about Aikido and all.

It will be fun reading your posts about science. Math was never my favorite subject, but maybe you can bring it closer to me after all. Looking forward to reading your other posts about biking, hiking, music and aikido even more. Welcome to Steemit, @trang

Thanks!

I used to have a sign on my door that reads: "There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who love math, and those who haven't realized they love math." and I truly believe it! If you don't come to realization soon enough, I hope at least you find my future posts entertaining.

Hi @trang - nice to know of you from the Vietnamese discord channel. I work @ PCAM on the health system side. I would love to meet up with you for lunch 🥗.

Very advance math subjects, which I don't understand but I'm eager to read about! :D

Hello! Welcome, I followed you and will support your blog and your articles, but I want you too to follow me. Let's develop the power of Steemit together!

I will be happy to follow your journey here on this platform, @trang. Welcome to Steemit!

Hi, I'm @rachiid .First I stopped by to give you a warm welcome to the Steemit platform.Next I wish you good luck and many good things as you join us. I upvote you, if you would like to follow me I will happily follow you too

Welcome to Steemit, I hope you like it here very much, I followed you, I hope this is mutual ;) A lot of interesting things ahead, good luck!
