Why I chose to leave Italy and travel south America

in introduceyourself •  6 years ago

I'm Alessandra, but you can call me Alex. I'm 22 years old and I was born and raised in Italy. I graduated last December in social studies. Before going to my graduation party I packed the essential, couple of clothes, a travel journal, hiking boots, my sandals and the guide of south America on a shoestring. Two days later I was on a flight heading to Cuba, with just one plan: heading south, slowly but surely.

I loved to study and I love what I studied, but I had, deeply inside, an urge need to go and see South America. Furthermore, the political and social situation in my country was not that appealing that leaving had never been so easy.
So, South America, from north to south, a part of the world that has always fascinated me. A land full of history, not just one , but different histories. I couldn't wait to understand more about the history through people's stories. I couldn't wait to see it with my eyes.

Now, here I am, after 8 months I'm currently in Peru, and, on Steemit, I'll share my thoughts and my experiences.

Does any of you want to share Latin American experiences? Any advice is appreciated :-)

Cheers

Hello traveleralex! Welcome to Steemit! Hope you'll like the community here. As a start, here are 5 tips that we believe will be helpful to you:

  1. Keep your passwords safe: Unlike conventional sites, Steemit has 4 types of passwords. Each offers varying degrees of access to your account, so know where and when to use each of them. Also, make sure to keep them all safe and secure.
  2. Get Steem rewards: When writing a post, you'll have the option to choose how to receive your reward: "Default 50%/50%" or "Power Up 100%". As of this moment, choosing Default 50%/50% is the better option. But this can change over time. Check our post to know more.
  3. Upvote wisely: When upvoting, wait at least 30 minutes after the post is published to maximize your curation reward. Also, make sure not to upvote too much too fast so as not to drain your voting power.
  4. Know your Steem, Steem Dollars and Steem Power: Steem and Steem Dollars are the 2 main currencies here. Convert and power up more Steem into Steem Power so you can have higher values on your upvotes.
  5. Have Fun and Enjoy!

Hey Alex I am new here as well, I am from Uruguay and traveled to a lot of places in the past but now I am here, in case you ever visit here you have a new friend. I love to make new friends from all over the globe as I consider myself a traveler as well and I love to learn about new cultures too.

Hey mate!!! Thanks for replying! I appreciate it! Sure, Uruguay is on my list, I think I'll be there on February 2019. Hope we can meet up for some mate y un asado. I'll check your profile!

Of course it will be a pleasure, mate and asado I see you are well informed Alex! I am very new here so there is not a lot of info yet on my profile but I am updating it as we speak.

Hey Alex, great to see you are traveling through South America. If you are in Peru, you should try to visit Choquequirao. It is also calles "Machu Pichu's sister" because of the similarities. However, it is less crowded than Machu Pichu and in very good condition. Definitely worth a visit. Enjoy your trip.

Hey! Thanks for the tips! I've heard about it, do you know if you can get there hiking couple of days? Should I do Choquequirao insted of Machu Pichu or do both ? What do you think?

If you have the time to do both, I would recommend to also hike the Machu Picchu because it is also very impressive. The Choquequirao is more challenging to hike that's why there are not that many tourists. For the hike you would need around 4-6 days (hiking up and down is between 60 and 70 km).
