I imagine that when most people start a blog, they do some sort of introductory post that tells people about them - who they are, what they do, their goals, et cetera. Don't get me wrong - I'm fine with all of that - but from my perspective, a lot of it just isn't important enough for me to mention it.
- I could tell you that I'm a bachelor. That doesn't really mean anything outside of romance, and that's not why I'm here.
- I could tell you I'm heterosexual. Again, unless you want to date me, that's trivial.
- I could actually write a whole essay about my personal/professional life, but let's be honest: that would probably bore the crap out of people...and most of it isn't anything I'd want to touch on here.
So, what what would I consider meaningful in terms of this blog?
- I'm a voluntaryist. That actually says something about the content (largely political) and my goals (a voluntary society).
- I have a natural (purely academic) interest in religion. This somewhat affects my views on things, so I think it's important in that it gives a sense of context for some of the things I might post.
- I'm an apatheist. This gives a sense of perspective for some of my posts, and also adds some level of context.
So, why did I start this blog? A few reasons, but the primary ones are:
- To put some thoughts I've had for a while out there to be attacked. This allows me to refine those thoughts.
- To (hopefully) get some exosure to new ways of thinking.
- As a personal progress tracker of sorts just to see how much I change my thinking.
So, if I haven't absolutely scared you off...welcome to my thoughts.
